Official images and details for the new Jeep Grand Commander have been revealed. Set to make its debut at the 2018 Beijing auto show in April, the SUV was previewed by the Yuntu Concept, first displayed in 2017 at the Shanghai motor show. Production of the concept was confirmed when a patent filed by Jeep for a three-row SUV surfaced in October 2017.

The Grand Commander SUV will be sold in in two trims – Longitude and Limited – and will be offered in front-wheel- and four-wheel-drive options. The higher-spec Limited variant also sports chrome inserts along the window frames, front bumper and side sills to differentiate between the two trims.

While the Yuntu Concept was a six-seater, the production-spec Grand Commander is meant to be a proper seven-seater.

Power is said to be provided by the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol mill that makes 270hp and 400Nm of peak torque found on the new Wrangler.

In terms of its dimensions, the Grand Commander measures 4,873mm in length, 1,892mm in width and 1,738mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,800mm. This makes it 478mm longer, 74mm wider and 98mm taller, with a wheelbase that is 164mm longer, than the Compass that is on sale in India.

There is, currently, no information on Jeep bringing the Grand Commander to India. However, Jeep has plans to launch its new Wrangler in India around the festive season of 2018.
