Honda recently launched its all-new, fifth-generation City midsize sedan in the country. Priced from Rs 10.90-14.65 lakh, the new City is pricier than its competition but is also larger than its predecessor – which will remain on sale – and comes packed with more tech and an all-new petrol engine. Here is a look at what’s on offer:
What are the engine options available?
Buyers have a choice of two engine options – one petrol and one diesel. The petrol unit is an all-new 121hp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated unit (DOHC as against the older model’s SOHC) and is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. A CVT automatic option is also available. The diesel is the familiar 1.5-litre unit that first debuted in BS6-spec form in the Honda Amaze. This engine is good for 100hp and 200Nm of torque and is available solely with a 6-speed manual.

What are its rivals and what’s next from Honda?
The new Honda City rivals the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna facelift, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento. As mentioned before, the fourth-gen City will also continue to be sold alongside this new model.
With the launch of the new Honda City, the carmaker will now be looking at reintroducing the Jazz in BS6 spec. Honda’s premium hatchback will return as a petrol-only model and receive updates to keep the model fresh in the market.
