Ford has taken the wraps off the all-new GT supercar at Detroit Motor Show 2015.

Expected to go in production in late 2016, the new Ford GT be a global model and is also expected to be sold in Europe. The new Ford GT is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost motor that churns out more than 592bhp and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It will feature a light weight carbon fiber body which will help it achieve one of the best power-to-weight ratios of any production vehicle.  The new Ford GT sits low and wide on 20-inch wheels. A torsion bar and pushrod suspension does duty and incorporates adjustable ride height settings. Stopping power comes from carbon-ceramic disc brakes.  It comes with upward-swinging doors and the seats are incorporated directly on the floor.

The Ford GT is RWD like its predecessors and is one of twelve new models that will be launched under the Ford Performance banner by the year 2020. Some of the other models that will feature in this performance sub-brand include the Ford Focus RS, the Ford F-150 Raptor, the Shelby GT350 and the GT350R.

The new Ford GT will come to market to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Ford's GT race cars placing first, second and third at the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours race.
