Mitsubishi is set to unveil the eX all-electric crossover concept at the Tokyo motor show. As per the company the name eX stands for electric(e) crossover(X). The concept has been described as a compact crossover, which means that if it were to go into production it will either slot in above or below the ASX in the company’s international line-up.

Mitsubishi says that the eX crossover concept will feature an all-wheel drive system along with active safety and automated driving systems as well.

The eX concept is also expected to become the precursor to the company’s future design direction, with Mitsubishi calling the crossover a mix between a shooting-brake and a compact SUV. The design of the concept also features the latest interpretation of the Dynamic Shield front fascia seen on the Outlander sold internationally.

Mitsubishi had previously told our sister publication Autocar UK that it intended to expand its SUV line-up by 2020 with five models. The new models are expected to fill in the gaps left between the ASX, Outlander and the Shogun.
