Mercedes has filed trademark applications for the O 120, O 140, O 180 and O 200.

Mercedes-Benz has filed trademark applications with the European Intellectual Property office for various O-badged vehicles.

Daimler AG, Mercedes’ parent company filed trademark applications on February 4, 2019, for the O 120, O 140, O 180 and O 200. The trademarks were filed under the category of “motor vehicles and motor vehicle engines,” which indicates that Mercedes could use the badging on a variety of vehicles such as SUVs, trucks, cars, etc.

At this point, the type of vehicle Mercedes will use these badging for is still unknown. Mercedes has used the O badges for its line of buses – the O 530, O 305, and O 405. However, the style in which the trademarks have been filed are more in line with Mercedes’ passenger vehicles naming convention. The brand usually uses one letter followed by three digits that denote different engine sizes and outputs (like C 200, S 400, A 180).

At this point, only speculations can be made as to what kind of vehicles Mercedes will use the names for. Also worth noting is that a trademark application isn’t evidence of much – it could be denied or just stored by the company, so there is a very real possibility that the ‘Mercedes-Benz O-class’ may never actually reach production.
