Mercedes-AMG has teased the CLA35 four-door coupe via an image on social media, confirming that an international unveiling for the new model will happen soon. It will be the most powerful model in the current CLA line-up and will utilise the same 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine which makes 306hp and 400Nm of torque, seen in the A35 hot-hatch.
The new CLA35 will come with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and power will be sent to all-four wheels via Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive system. This also means that the CLA35 will benefit from the 4Matic Sport driving mode. The four-door coupe is going to be heavier than the A35 hatchback and is expected to take marginally longer to do the 0-100kph sprint than the A35 hatch, which does it in 4.7 seconds.
The upcoming CLA35 will be positioned by Mercedes as a sleeker and more stylish version of the A-class sedan, which is 139mm shorter than the CLA. The CLA35 will be followed by a range topping CLA45 model, which will use the 405hp engine from the Mercedes-AMG A45 hatchback, which is slated to be unveiled later this year.
In India, Mercedes has recently launched the AMG C43 Coupe at a price of Rs 75 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It is also working on bringing the A-class sedan to our market by around 2020-21.
