Maruti Suzuki has announced that prices of all its models will increase, effective January 2020. While the brand has not yet revealed by how much prices will increase, Maruti has said that the hike in prices will be dependent on the model in question.
Despite being a cyclical increase in prices (most carmakers in India usually announce price hikes around this time for the next year), Maruti Suzuki has said that this increase is due to an increase in various input costs.
The move is expected to help the brand increase sales in the last month of the year. 2019 has been a hard year for the automobile industry – and while Maruti Suzuki retained the top spot on the sales chart throughout – overall sales have fallen.
Still, a new crop of cars launched this year – from the all-new models like the S-Presso and XL6 to the BS6-compliant versions of the Baleno, Alto, Ciaz, Dzire, Ertiga, Swift and Wagon R – have made sure that Maruti stays at the top.
In the weeks ahead, essentially before the April 2020 deadline for BS6 emission norms, Maruti will introduce the BS6-compliant versions of the Alto K10 and Celerio and bring out the S-Cross and Vitara Brezza with the K15B petrol engine.
