JSW Motors will unveil the Combat SUV on December 4, marking its entry into India’s automotive market as a fresh standalone brand. This follows our exclusive report in September, which revealed the Combat name for the upcoming SUV based on the Jetour T2. The JSW Combat will be a 5-seater plug-in-hybrid SUV that will be assembled at the manufacturer’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (previously Aurangabad) facility.
- PHEV setup to use a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and an 18.4kWh battery
- Will have a boxy silhouette, with changes to the headlights and bumpers
- Interior could be the same as the international model save for JSW badges
The Jetour T2 recently received a facelift internationally, but the numerous spy shots in India suggest JSW Motors will be offering the pre-facelift model in the country. It was originally planned to debut by Diwali, but has now been delayed to December.
JSW Combat: All you need to know
Will produce 360hp, 610Nm and have a claimed total range of 1,100km
The India-spec JSW Combat is expected to feature a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, an 18.4kWh battery and two electric motors driving the front wheels (FWD). Paired with a 3-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT), the system produces a combined output of 360hp and 610Nm of torque. It offers a claimed all-electric range of 90km on the NEDC cycle, while the combined range with a full fuel tank is rated at up to 1,100km.
Save for new badges and slight revisions, the overall design is likely to be the Jetour T2’s
The JSW Combat is expected to have a similar design to the Jetour T2, but previous spy shots suggest slightly revised headlights and front and rear bumpers. A new ‘Combat’ lettering is likely to replace the ‘Jetour’ at the front. Along with a boxy silhouette, what is expected to be retained are the 20-inch alloy wheels, generous wheel arch cladding, roof rails with neon green design elements, a spare wheel mounted on the boot door, and vertically oriented LED taillights.
Expected to get a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, Level 2 ADAS, and 12 speakers
Inside, the 5-seater JSW Combat is expected to have an upright dashboard flanked by a huge 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, and a four-spoke steering wheel likely with a JSW Motors badge. In terms of features, the international-spec model gets a 6-way powered driver’s seat, a 4-way powered co-driver’s seat, ventilation and memory functions on front seats, and a 12-speaker Sony sound system. On the safety front, it gets 6 airbags, a 540-degree camera (offering underbody and surround view), and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The India-spec JSW Combat is expected to have a similar feature suite.
It is understood that JSW Motors is keen to price the Combat aggressively, possibly in the range of Rs 40 lakh to 50 lakh (ex-showroom). At this price point, it will lock horns with the Kia Sorento, and its rugged underpinnings are expected to place it squarely against the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.
