It’s only been 22 days since the all-new Hyundai Santro was opened for bookings and it has already garnered more than 28,800 bookings across the country. This has contributed to Hyundai posting its highest-ever domestic sales figures in the month of October, this year, with sales figures of 52,001 units. These figures are up by 4.9 percent from October 2017. The new Santro has been doing well in this department right from the get-go as it gathered 14,000 bookings in the first nine days of pre-booking and reached 23,500 by the time of its official launch. According to Hyundai the all-new Santro has received 1,29,500 inquiries and clocked wholesale numbers of over 8,500 units. They have also stated that they plan on producing only 10,000 units of the Santro every month, so customers might face a one- or two-month waiting period for their car.
The new Santro is available in five variants – the D-lite, Era, Magna, Sportz, and Asta trims – with the Magna and Sportz trims receiving optional factory-fitted CNG kits. All trims will be powered by a 1.1-litre, four-cylinder engine that produces 69hp and 99Nm of torque in the petrol variant and 59hp and 84Nm of torque in the CNG variant. The petrol variants will be offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox – the latter is only available in the Magna and Sportz trims, while the CNG variants will only be offered with the 5-speed manual gearbox. The new Santro's main rivals are the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, the Datsun Go and the Tata Tiago.
