April was a month that auto manufacturers will be looking to forget. Production across the country came to a halt due to the lockdown and this resulted in companies reporting zero domestic sales last month. One of them is TVS Motor that shut its plants on March 23, in compliance with the Government of India guidelines.

The company did manage to export a few vehicles, following the resumption of operations at the Chennai Port. 8,134 two-wheelers and 1,506 three-wheelers were shipped utilising the stocks from March 2020.

In its press release, TVS also said that it is committed to stand united with the government and the people in their sustained efforts to overcome the pandemic. It is now gearing up to restart operations as per state guidelines and is taking measures to safeguard the health of the employees.

A silver lining comes in the form of the Norton acquisition and what that partnership holds in store.

TVS has also undertaken a number of initiatives to tackle the effects of the pandemic. As part of the initiatives, the company manufactured and distributed over one million face masks to healthcare workers and essential service providers across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Besides the supply of masks, the company has also distributed over 3.2 lakh food packets that were made at its kitchens located inside its Hosur and Padi factories. Earlier last month, the TVS Group also donated Rs 30 crore to support relief efforts.
