The 18th edition of the Royal Enfield Himalayan Odyssey, which will be organised after a three-year hiatus, will take riders across Umling La. This year's event will be held between July 2-18, and 70 riders from across India will cover a distance of 2,700km.

  • This year's Himalayan Odyssey will take riders across Umling La

  • Split into two groups – going from Delhi to Leh – following different routes

  • RE to focus on eco-friendliness through zero ‘single-use-plastic’ ride

2022 Himalayan Odyssey: Umling La Pass the highlight

The riders will be split into two groups – both will be flagged off from Delhi – and converge at Leh, albeit taking different routes, and cover Ladakh, Spiti as well as the Umling La pass.

The Umling La pass towers over every other motorable road in the world at 19,024ft over sea level, making it the new highest motorable road in the world. Previously, that title was reserved for the Khardung La pass at 17,982ft above sea level.

Royal Enfield's focus on cutting down waste

This year Royal Enfield has set a goal to use zero ‘single-use-plastics’ on this journey by propagating safe, eco-friendly and responsible travel practices. At the previous Himalayan Odyssey held in 2019, the bikemaker had set up six purified water stations along its route to discourage plastic waste in the form of used water bottles. This idea was campaigned under the name #LeaveEveryPlaceBetter and is expected to be continued this year as well.

Himalayan Odyssey: a brief overview

Royal Enfield's intention of starting the Himalayan Odyssey was to give riders a taste of the gruelling terrain the mountainous passes presented. They said that this ride is intended to, “foster a sense of camaraderie and leave every rider with memories etched in their mind forever”. Royal Enfield has been organising this ride every year since 1997 and it takes riders across the Himalayan mountain range.
