The KTM 390 Duke is slated to get a series of exciting changes this year and new images have surfaced that give us our clearest look at the latest model yet.

  1. Engine might see a bump up in displacement
  2. Super Duke-inspired design

Next-gen KTM 390 Duke spied: design, underpinnings, features

The new-generation KTM 390 Duke features a number of changes over the outgoing model. The test mule that has been pictured here suggests a more aggressive design, on the lines of the 1290 Super Duke R, evident in the elongated tank extensions. There are rumours that the engine displacement may rise to 399cc and there could be a bump in peak power and torque.

All the sightings of the test mules have revealed new engine covers and routing for the exhaust system, suggesting that a comprehensive update to the existing 373cc single-cylinder mill is in order. The new bike is also expected to get a twin-fan radiator set-up, similar to the other 390s, for more efficient heat management.

Besides the engine, the test mule spotted here also sports a new braced swingarm, a new suspension set-up and the wheels and brakes seem to be taken from the RC 390’s parts bin. One curious thing, however, is that the front disc brake is mounted on the right as opposed to the RC 390 and 390 Adventure, which have it placed on the left. The suspension appears to be different as well with the monoshock having offset positioning.

The new bodywork has more than a whiff of Super Duke about it with the new LED headlight jutting further out, longer tank extensions and the jagged rear bodywork. The mirrors appear to be identical to the larger, multi-cylinder KTM naked bikes as well, although it remains to be seen if the production-spec bike gets them. As for features, expect KTM to equip the new 390 Duke generously, with traction control, cornering ABS and a bidirectional quickshifter in the mix.

Next-gen KTM 390 Duke spied: price, India launch

Historically, the 390 Duke has always been positioned below the RC 390 in KTM’s line-up. Considering the new model will almost certainly warrant an upcharge over the existing bike’s Rs 2.96 lakh asking price and the RC 390 currently retails for Rs 3.16 lakh, we expect the next-gen 390 Duke’s price to be similar to the RC’s.

The next-gen 390 Duke is rumoured to make its global debut in mid-2023, and will be launched in India subsequently. With the test mule spotted here appearing nearly production-ready, the launch of the new KTM 390 Duke doesn’t seem to be too far off. As is the case with all small-capacity KTMs, the 390 Duke will be manufactured by Bajaj in Chakan for both export and domestic markets.

All prices mentioned are ex-showroom, Delhi.
