Honda has just announced that the Dio has sold over 30 lakh units globally, since its launch in 2002. While that is an impressive figure, what is even more impressive is that Honda has claimed that half this number (15 lakh units) was sold in the last three years. Honda has also revealed that the Dio is the fourth largest selling scooter in India and, with a 44 percent export market share in the scooter segment, is the most exported scooter from the country. The substantial export numbers are a result of Honda’s presence in developing countries, among which are Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Colombia, and a handful of South Asian and Latin American countries.

The Honda Dio is powered by a 109.19cc single-cylinder engine that makes 7.92hp at 7,000rpm and 8.91Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. The scooter is available in a total of nine colour schemes and gets features like an LED headlight, full-digital instrument cluster and underseat USB port. The Dio is available in two variants – standard and DLX – with the price starting at Rs 52,938 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Addressing the milestone, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd., said, “With its 17 years of legacy, the Dio remains fresh as ever while celebrating the spirit of youthfulness. Convenient features and stylish looks make it a perfect partner for youngsters of today – not just in India but in international markets as well.”
