Triumph has released a video teasing the upcoming Speed Triple. Even though the overall styling of the bike has not changed, it looks to be considerably revised. Some of these revisions include the new TFT colour instrumentation, five-spoke alloy wheels, redesigned front fender and switchgear.
One of the first frames in the video shows the silhouette of the new motorcycle, in this shot the Speed Triple looks identical to the model it replaces. It has the same overall design outline, including the windscreen and headlights. This doesn’t come as a surprise because the motorcycle has only been revised for 2018 and not replaced. However, going by the way Triumph has recently updated its Street and Tiger range, we can expect the new Speed Triple to have a considerable number of changes underneath its similar-looking bodywork.
One such update has been clearly given away in the teaser video – the TFT colour screen. This screen is a full-colour unit similar to the one seen on the updated Street Triple RS and Tiger models, and is highly informative. The Speed will also feature new switchgear with the ride mode-switch being larger and easier to use; it will also be backlit.
The teaser also reveals other changes like the redesigned five-spoke wheels and a sharper-looking front fender. The new Speed Triple could also come with some mechanical revisions, which could see the bike make a little more power and lose some weight, just as Triumph did with the new Tigers. Along with the new TFT screen, expect to see smarter electronic assists, possibly aided by an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). Going by how popular the Triumph Street Triple RS has become, we may also get to see the RS badge debut on the Speed Triple this time around.
