Riding a bike brings an unmatched sense of freedom. There really is no point in buying a powerful bike if you are only going to commute on it. But before you hit the road, it is crucial to ensure you have everything in order, from your driving licence and motorcycle registration papers, to your vehicle’s pollution under control certificate and insurance. If your policy is nearing its expiry date, you can buy two wheeler insurance policy online. What you should also do is...

Regularly check your tyres: Make sure that your tyres have at least half an inch of tread left in them at all times. If the tread depth is any lower, you should change tyres immediately.

Regularly check your engine oil: Engine oil should be changed once every six months, or on completion of a certain number of kilometers recommended by the manufacturer, or it might damage the engine.

Regularly check your brakes and brake fluid: The disc brake system in your motorcycle has brake pads and brake fluid both of which are used when you apply the brakes. They need to be checked regularly and changed when needed. Your brakes may not work properly otherwise and create unwanted risk.

Get a sturdy helmet: Don’t even think of getting on your bike without an ISI marked, full-face riding helmet. It is also a legal requirement. Make sure that you get a sturdy, high quality helmet and change it once a year or so.

Get durable riding gear: Durable riding gear consists of a riding jacket and pants as well as high quality riding gloves and boots. There are two advantages of proper riding gear, it improves rider safety and enhances overall riding comfort.

Carry your water and snacks: When riding your bike, it is best to carry at least two litres of drinking water per person and some snacks with you. While you can stop and buy these things from roadside shops, carrying your water and food from home is cheaper and safer.

Carry a basic tyre puncture kit: A tyre puncture kit can come in handy if you encounter a flat tyre in the back of the beyond. Finding a puncture repair shop in such places is both wastage of time and money.

Ride during daylight: It is best to ride your bike in daylight. If you are planning a long trip, perhaps an interstate trip, it is best to start as soon as day breaks. It is best to stop with at least 2 hours of daylight remaining. Riding in dark creates unnecessary risk.
