Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy my first car and have my heart set on an Ignis AGS/AMT. I’m open to Delta, Zeta or Alpha AGS, preferably 2026-manufactured and unregistered. I’ve already checked Itanagar, North Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Guwahati, but only manuals are available. I’m willing to buy from anywhere in India. If anyone knows of a NEXA dealer that still has an Ignis AGS in stock, please share the dealer/city. Any lead would be really appreciated.

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis AGS is a great first car choice, but unfortunately, you are unlikely to find a new 2026-manufactured, unregistered AGS anywhere in India. Maruti Suzuki discontinued the Ignis in 2025, and most dealers have already exhausted their remaining stock. The few cars left in the system are almost exclusively manual variants, which is exactly what you are seeing in Assam.

If you are absolutely set on the Ignis AGS, your best option is to start looking at lightly used examples from 2024 or late 2023 with low mileage. This Maruti Suzuki car is reliable car, and a well-maintained used example can still be a great first car. If you are open to an alternative, the Maruti Suzuki Swift AGS are the closest replacements in the Maruti Suzuki lineup. However, the Swift uses the newer 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, which, although more efficient, isn't as responsive or refined as the Ignis' 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi variant. It offers the best balance of features and value, giving you all the essentials like the touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, auto climate control, alloy wheels and key safety features without pushing the price too high. The higher variants add some nice extras, but the ZXi is where the value sweet spot lies. As for timing, now is a good time to book. The Swift is relatively new, with no major updates expected in the near future. If you are happy with the car, go ahead and book it.

Go for the Hyundai Exter HX4. It is the better value-for-money package and the more practical car overall. This Hyundai car offers a higher seating position, better ground clearance and a more spacious cabin, especially in terms of headroom and rear seat comfort. It also feels more substantial on the road and is better suited to rough roads and speed breakers. The Swift VXi is the better driver's car with a lower seating position, a better engine and a more engaging driving experience, but it is not as practical as the Exter. Overall, the Exter is the better choice for most buyers looking for value, space and practicality.

I am planning to buy the Thar Roxx Star Edition. My monthly usage is around 1,000-1,200 km, with roughly 50% city and 50% highway driving. Should I choose the diesel or stick with the petrol?

Go for the diesel. At 1,000–1,200 km a month with a 50:50 city–highway split, the diesel makes sense. The Thar Roxx is a heavy, rugged SUV, and the diesel’s stronger low-end torque suits both city crawling and highway cruising. You will also see a meaningful difference in fuel efficiency over time, which matters at your running. Your highway running should also be enough to allow the DPF to regenerate properly.The petrol is smoother and quieter in the city, but it will be thirstier. The diesel’s slightly higher upfront cost will take a while to recoup, but it is justified by your usage pattern and the Thar’s character. Overall, the diesel is the more sensible and satisfying choice for your driving mix.

I want to purchase a 7-seater SUV. My options are the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO, and Scorpio N, and I am considering installing an aftermarket CNG kit for better fuel economy. Could you please suggest which one would be better suited for CNG?

We would strongly advise against installing aftermarket CNG on any of these SUVs. All three – the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Scorpio N - are large, heavy vehicles with powerful turbocharged petrol engines. Fitting CNG to such engines is not recommended, as it can lead to drivability issues, increased wear and potential reliability concerns over time. More importantly, these SUVs are not designed with CNG in mind, and the installation can compromise safety and performance.If fuel economy is a top priority, opt for their diesel versions instead. The Mahindra and Tata offer strong torque, excellent highway efficiency and are well-suited to long-distance touring. If you are set on CNG, it is better to look at smaller, naturally aspirated petrol cars that are either factory-fitted or specifically designed for CNG use.Between the three, the XUV 7XO diesel would be our recommendation. It offers a more modern package, better ride comfort and a more premium cabin than the Scorpio N, while the Safari diesel is also a strong contender if you prefer Tata's design and feature set. But CNG should not be the deciding factor here.

The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine is strong and refined, making this Mahindra car well suited to both city and highway driving, while the manual gearbox is smooth and easy to use.The Tata Safari is still a good car, with a comfortable ride and a spacious cabin, but the XUV 7XO feels more modern and premium inside.
