The choice between the Toyota Innova HyCross and the Mahindra XUV 7XO really comes down to your specific requirements, as both are fairly different. If you are looking for a thrilling and peppy driving experience, then the Mahindra is the way to go. Both the petrol and diesel engines deliver a strong performance and are very refined.
However, if a more laid-back driving feel and fuel efficiency are your priorities, then the Toyota is the way to go, as the hybrid powertrain would prove to be more efficient. In our standard test cycle, it delivered 13.1 km/l in the city and 16.1 km/l on the highway.

Hi Arun Please don’t go for Scorpio which doesn’t have comfort due to body rollover If you are ok to buy second hand then go for Crysta 2.8 engine automatic and you will get good vehicle under 15 lakhs you won’t get this comfort on any other mpv I challenge you If you need fresh one then hycross hybrid would be a good choice since you have minimum run of 1000 per month

Space and Fuel Efficiency of The Hycross are better, it has pathetic interiors for a car priced 30lakhs plus, the xuv 7xo more fun to drive, pampers you top notch interiors with more features than the Hycross. The diesel engine is go go for if at all. Petrol avg is very low so avoid that. You may consider the Petrol Tata Safari as the 3rd row is better than the 7xo and the fuel efficiency is also 9 to 10kmpl.

I want to buy a 7-seater car and am confused between the Jeep Meridian and the Toyota Innova Hycross. Could you please explain the pros and cons of both models and help me decide which one would be the better choice?

Both are very different cars, so the choice really depends on what you want from your 7-seater.The Jeep Meridian is a proper SUV. It feels solid, has excellent ride quality, and really shines on broken roads and highways. The 2.0-litre diesel paired with the 9-speed automatic is relaxed and effortless at cruising speeds, making it a very good long-distance tourer. It also feels more planted and confidence-inspiring at higher speeds. However, the third row is tight and best suited for kids, and overall space isn’t as generous as the Toyota. The Toyota Innova Hycross, on the other hand, is more urban in nature. It’s powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, with a strong hybrid option that delivers excellent fuel efficiency in city use. It’s significantly more spacious, especially in the second and third rows, and comfort is a big highlight. For family use and city driving, it feels easier and lighter to live with. Long-term ownership peace of mind is also a big plus, thanks to Toyota’s strong reliability reputation. To sum up; Go for the Meridian if you enjoy driving, do long highway trips and want that SUV feel.Take the Hycross if space, comfort, efficiency and hassle-free ownership matter more, especially for urban use.

Hi Autocar Team, I am planning to upgrade from my Hyundai Venue to a 6-seater SUV with captain seats for long-term ownership. My top priorities are low maintenance, reliability and a good ownership experience. My budget allows me to consider options like the MG Gloster, MG Majestor or the Volkswagen Tayron, although I do not want the Toyota Fortuner as it is very common on the road. I have also driven the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700, which would cost significantly less. Since I plan to keep the car for 8-10 years, which option would offer the best reliability, lowest maintenance and overall peace of mind among these SUVs? Additionally, with a monthly running of about 1,200-1,500 km, mostly in the city, should I choose a petrol or diesel SUV for better long-term ownership costs?

For your limited running, a petrol-engined vehicle makes the most sense in terms of long-term reliability and running costs. Among your premium picks, the Volkswagen Tayron stands out as a solid choice thanks to its German build quality and premium interior. Its 2.0-litre engine delivers strong performance, and it is well equipped. It doesn’t offer captain’s chairs, which you mentioned you would like. But the second row is spacious and comfortable, and it can slide forward to free up some additional room for third-row occupants. That said, the third row is best suited to shorter journeys. While service costs will be on the higher side, the Tayron should be fairly reliable on paper, and the overall ownership experience is likely to be very satisfying. As you mentioned, you are open to considering the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO. We would also suggest looking at the Toyota Innova Hycross. Since you are prioritising low ownership costs and peace of mind over the next 8 to 10 years, the Hycross is a better choice than the Safari and XUV 7XO. Additionally, it can be optioned with captain’s chairs in the middle row and has a genuinely usable third row. It does share the same drawback that put you off the Fortuner. It is quite common, but the reason for its popularity is simply that it is such a well-rounded product.Do take a test drive of all these options, and spend some time in the middle and third rows as well, before making your final decision.

Which car to chose between XUV 7XO AX7T and Innova HyCross ZX(O)?

There’s a big price gap between the two. The Mahindra XUV7XO AX7T diesel is roughly Rs 10 lakh less than the Toyota Innova HyCross ZX(O), which is priced at around Rs 38 lakh on-road. That’s significant, so the decision really depends on how much that difference matters to you and what you expect from the car.If price isn’t a constraint, the HyCross ZX(O) makes a very strong case as a city car. Its hybrid powertrain is exceptionally smooth, quiet and efficient in stop-and-go traffic. It glides around town in EV mode at low speeds and feels far more refined than a conventional diesel automatic. The cabin is also more comfortable overall, especially the third row, which is genuinely more usable for adults. The XUV 7XO, on the other hand, is the more engaging car to drive. The 2.2-litre diesel is very torquey, the steering and controls are light, and it feels surprisingly easy to handle in town despite its size. That said, as a conventional ICE with a 6-speed automatic, it can’t match the seamlessness of the Hycross hybrid in urban conditions. On the highway, the equation shifts. The XUV 7XO comes into its own as a high-speed cruiser, with a strong mid-range punch, effortless overtakes, and very good stability. It just feels more at home stretching its legs. The HyCross is by no means weak or unstable at speed. Its 2.0-litre hybrid has enough performance, and it cruises comfortably, but its character clearly suits city use better. So it really comes down to usage. Predominantly city driving with lots of traffic? The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is the better fit. A healthy mix of city and highway, with frequent long drives? The XUV 7XO diesel offers strong value and a more satisfying highway experience.
