I need to buy a 7‑seater, and I am waiting for the Safari EV, but I really don’t know if Tata is actually developing the product or has just parked it for later. I can wait for 6-7 months. Do you have any reliable information about the status of the Safari EV, or should I go for other options?

The Tata Safari can be fully electrified, but Tata Motors had earlier put its launch plans on hold.

However, following the launch of the Mahindra XEV 9S, Tata Motors has revived plans for the Safari EV to take on the XEV 9S to stop Mahindra from running away with the Rs 20 lakh three-row SUV space. The Safari EV is now likely to be launched by mid-2025.

Hi, I’m planning to buy my first car, which I won’t be driving regularly. My budget is under ₹14 lakh on-road. I’m looking for a fun-to-drive car and don’t need it to be family-focused. I’m open to both manual and automatic transmissions, whichever is more engaging to drive and fun.

The Skoda Kylaq will be the perfect choice for your requirements. It has a punchy 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine and is available in both a manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The Kylaq has compact dimensions and has a well-balanced chassis that makes the car great fun to drive. The handling is particularly impressive, and it has a good build too. The Prestige variant in manual guise will fit in your budget, while the Signature+ AT variant works if you prefer the automatic.

I’m looking to buy a motorcycle with strong low-end torque. Which would be better among the Goan Classic 350, CB350, Harley-Davidson X440 T, and Royal Enfield Scram 440? My usage will mostly be in the city, with rare long rides, and I’m not concerned about top speed.

For city use among the bikes you're looking at, the top two would be the Royal Enfield Scram 440 and Harley-Davidson X440 T. These bikes have large, long-stroke, single-cylinder engines, which will have the edge over the smaller 350s you're looking at. However, if most of your usage is inside the city, we'd recommend sticking with the 350cc roadsters from either Royal Enfield - Hunter/ Classic / Bullet - or Honda - in the form of its CB350 trio. These bikes will have more than enough grunt for city traffic and will also return more fuel economy. Take a test ride of these to see which one suits you best.

I own a Honda CB 350 H'ness 2022 model. It is doing great when it comes to the engine, but the parts feel substandard. I would like to upgrade to a 650cc or a 750cc bike. Kindly suggest a model for daily commute and occasional long trips.

If you want a 650cc bike that can be used daily, the models at the forefront are the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 and BSA Gold Star 650. Both have torquey engines - albeit ones that sound and behave very differently - with upright ergonomics making them a good fit for daily usage. Do bear in mind that both bikes are much heavier than your current Honda CB350 H'ness and will demand some caution before you get used to their size and heft.If you want something a little more unique, then the Kawasaki Z650 or Z650RS makes for genuinely usable big bikes. While their prices are more than double those of the Royal Enfield and BSA, they really are hassle-free, punchy, well-built machines that will serve you well for a long time. One thing to note with the Kawasaki 650s is that they have low ground clearance, which could be a factor that influences your purchase if your city doesn't have good roads.

I own a 2025 Ducati Scrambler Icon and am considering upgrading to a Termignoni racing silencer. My usage is mostly within the city at speeds of around 70kmph. Is it worth the upgrade?

The Termignoni slip-on exhaust will not only enhance the exhaust note of your Ducati Scrambler 2G Icon but can also slightly improve the bike’s performance. While the Termi pipe will certainly add to the fun of riding your Scrambler, you should consider the expense as well as the legal point of view before making this purchase. Most police officers routinely stop big bikes within the city over suspicions of loud exhausts, and if an officer catches you, you could be looking at your bike being impounded, the exhaust being seized, and a hefty fine as well. Consider all points of view carefully before going ahead with this.
