I'm planning to buy a Skoda Slavia. Is it worth waiting for the facelift that's expected later this year? Also, should the ongoing discussion around ethanol blending influence my purchase decision? I'm quite confused about whether I should wait for more clarity on the fuel policy or go ahead with the purchase.

The Skoda Slavia facelift is expected around mid-August, so it is worth waiting if your purchase isn’t urgent. The update is likely to bring mild styling tweaks, but more importantly, some meaningful feature upgrades. Improvements to the air conditioning are expected, along with additions like ventilated or massage functions for the seats and a revised automatic gearbox option. Even if changes aren’t dramatic, you’ll be getting a more up-to-date package for roughly the same money.

On the ethanol blending question, there’s no real reason to hold back your purchase. The current Slavia is already E20 compliant, and modern turbo petrol engines are engineered to run reliably on this fuel. In fact, there is typically some engineering buffer built in, so handling slightly higher blends like E25 in practice is not an issue from a durability standpoint.

At present, there is no clear or official roadmap beyond E20 in India. So waiting for further clarity on fuel policy is unlikely to materially affect your decision. The only noticeable downside with higher ethanol blends is a marginal drop in fuel efficiency, which is something manufacturers have already factored in.

Overall, the Slavia continues to stand out as one of the best driver-focused sedans in its class. Strong turbo petrol engines, a well-judged ride-and-handling balance, and a solid build make this Skoda car a very appealing choice. Waiting for the facelift makes sense, but there’s no need to delay your decision over ethanol concerns.

@saswatdas After driving the Slavia, I felt where do I start I keep my Skoda like my baby but still due to this e20 I have already changed the fuel pump of my slavia the car in it have no issues.. infact the stability on highways is good the ground clearance is also good for our road condition... overall happy with it...and yes I drive manual top end...

However, I am in a dilemma regarding the fuel efficiency of the petrol engine, as most reviews and discussions suggest going for the diesel engine. Go for the XUV 7XO AX7T diesel automatic. With 7,000-8,000 km a year and 80 percent highway usage, the diesel makes more sense. The XUV 7XO diesel is a strong, refined engine with excellent highway performance and significantly better fuel efficiency than the petrol, especially at steady highway speeds. The petrol turbo is a good engine, but in a large 7-seater like the 7XO it will return noticeably lower fuel economy on long highway runs, and that difference adds up over time. The diesel automatic is smooth, has plenty of torque for effortless overtaking and cruising, and the ownership experience is strong. At your running, the diesel premium will take a few years to recover, but the fuel savings and the better highway driving experience make it worthwhile. The only reason to pick the petrol would be if your usage was predominantly city or you had a strong preference for petrol refinement. In your case, the diesel automatic is the clear recommendation.

I own a Grand i10 (2019) model and my annual running is 1,42,000 km. My daily running is 88 km. Should I install Lovato CNG kit or replace it with Exter CNG or Swift CNG. The car is in good condition.

With a daily running of 88 km, CNG absolutely makes sense from a running cost perspective. Since your Grand i10 is a 2019 model and in good condition, it might be worth spending and getting a CNG kit installed from a reputed installer. Do keep in mind that you will have to sacrifice boot space completely. However, if you're open to contributing more towards a new car, consider selling the Grand i10 if you're getting a decent price for it, and get the Hyundai Exter CNG. With the Exter CNG, you get the same smooth, efficient powertrain as the Nios, a factory-fitted CNG tank backed by the company warranty, and an added advantage is that its twin-tanks are placed beneath the boot floor, so you won't have to sacrifice luggage space either.

The Brezza LXI Turbo is far superior to the Punch and Tiago as far as smoothness, performance, and cabin space are concerned. It is also backed by Maruti's widespread support network, and the ownership experience is likely to be fuss-free. The on-road cost of the Brezza LXI will fall within your Rs 9 lakh budget, and even though you might miss a few features, it still feels worth opting for. Alternatively, you could also consider the Maruti Dzire VXI MT for its large boot, comfy ride and strong fuel efficiency.

It is one of the most spacious cars in the segment, with a genuinely usable third row and a comfortable ride that makes it an excellent family car. The petrol engine is smooth, refined and well suited to your running of under 1,000 km a month, where the hybrid premium is harder to justify.The Mahindra XUV 7XO is a strong alternative with a more powerful engine and a more feature-rich cabin, but the HyCross has the edge on space, comfort and long-term ownership experience.The Hyundai Alcazar and Kia Seltos are good cars, but they do not offer the same level of space or comfort, and the Renault Duster is more of a driver's car than a family car. The Toyota car mentioned above is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.
