We are planning to upgrade from our 2018 Hyundai i20 Magna CVT to a new car with a budget of under Rs 15 lakh. My first choice is the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT because I really enjoyed the way it drove during the test drive. The handling is excellent, and it feels very quick during overtakes. However, I'm concerned about its fuel efficiency. Will it be too low in real-world use? My second choice is the Hyundai Venue HX5 diesel automatic, but I'm worried about potential DPF issues over the long term. We usually do only one or two highway trips a month, and sometimes none at all. I've also come across mixed reviews about the fuel efficiency of this diesel variant. I'm not considering Mahindra or Tata because of my previous ownership experience with those brands. Our monthly running is around 700-750 km, with a 40:60 highway-to-city split, and city traffic can get quite heavy during peak hours. What would you recommend?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Prestige+ AT. Your usage of 700-750 km a month with a 40:60 highway-to-city split does not justify a diesel, especially given your concerns about DPF issues and the relatively infrequent long highway runs. The Kylaq’s 1.0 TSI turbo petrol engine paired with the 6-speed torque converter automatic is a genuinely enjoyable combination. It delivers strong mid-range performance for quick overtakes and feels far more engaging than most rivals in this price bracket. The Skoda Kylaq mileage in mixed conditions should be in the 11-13 kpl range, which is reasonable for a turbo petrol SUV with this level of performance.
