I want to buy a 7-seater car, and I like the MG Hector Plus. I like its build quality, interior and price. Should I go for it or look at the Tata Safari or 7XO?

While there's a lot to like about the MG Hector Plus, such as its upmarket interior and plush ride comfort. But it isn't a spacious or comfortable seven-seater, due to a cramped third row. The MG Hector price starts at 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tata Safari is certainly a better 7-seater SUV. Passengers will be comfortable in all three rows, and this Tata car feels tough and well-built. It is also well-equipped and has a stronger pair of engines - turbo-petrol and diesel.

Go for Hector coz it is much better than Safari and I am telling you from my own experience.i have been owner of Tata xz plus model and I can surely tell u ,it has been a problem for me from day one. From driving comfort like big blind spot in form of A pillar but Tata enthusiast will counter it with 360 camera which provide additional view while turning.i have never used this is overcome blind spot and always felt obstructed and inconvenient. Secondly ,suspension is big flop show including damper.With a six month of purchase ,there was full rattling sound in vehicle and when I visiting service station,they replaced damper . Best part of challenge is getting appointment for servicing,when ever you call for service center ,they will give appointment after 3-4 months. And even then not sure whether you get right resolution there also. My infotainment system was hanging and it took a year for me to get rectified but not fully yet. Morever, my cutchplate got burnt with one year of service and I paid around 70k two times to be rectified and when I asked for warranty,they said it is not covered. There are more such misadventures which i came across after buying this car for 30plus and it is idling in my garrage with no taker. And last but not least ,when I car broke down in middle of road,their RSA did not entertain my call and i had to get my car lifted and reach home. But next day I recieved a call for feedback on service whi h was never rendered. Best part was that when I contacted Tata motors they were dumb and had no resolution. Belive me gentleman,they are good for manufacturing truck and etc and cannot be good fit for us. God help those who go for safari and it's other product.

Agreed. MG Hector is far, far more reliable than any Tata car. Particularly Harrier and Safari.

Hi, I currently drive a Kia Sonet HTX iMT, which I purchased in December 2020. It has covered around 46,500km so far, with an annual running of approximately 10,000km. My current daily usage is 34km, mainly on the highway, as my office is in an industrial area. I am now looking to upgrade to a mid-size SUV with an automatic transmission. Given your requirements, the best option is the Hyundai Alcazar petrol DCT. It's available as a six- or seven-seater, giving you the flexibility you need when your extended family joins you on your journeys, and its 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine is relatively fuel efficient for a car of its size. The dual-clutch automatic is smooth enough, though it can be a bit clunky at low speeds if not driven smoothly and carefully. Also worth noting is that even the base model petrol-AT Alcazar costs around Rs 21 lakh on road, and the Alcazar has not been tested by any NCAP authority.The next best option is not an SUV but arguably a more practical option - the Kia Carens Clavis. It uses the same engine and gearbox in a lighter package with more space on the inside. Other 7-seat SUV options with more space - like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio-N and MG Hector Plus are available, but are nowhere near as fuel-efficient and will be out of your budget as well. All things considered, the Hyundai Alcazar is your best option.

I am looking to buy my first car and am confused between the Mahindra XUV 3XO RevX M and the new Brezza VXi Turbo. I am particularly confused about the actual operation and long-term maintenance costs of the TGDi and TCMPFi technologies. The Mahindra has a very nice interior but lacks Android Auto and a few other features. The Brezza also misses out on some interior features, but I am not too concerned about the maintenance of the TGDi engine. Considering long-term comfort, maintenance costs, and value for money, which car would be the better choice?

The difference between maintenance of modern turbo GDI and turbo MPFI engines can be minimised if you follow the company's recommended maintenance schedule. Still, there could be some difference in maintenance costs between the two when it comes to oils, replacement parts and other perishables. The key factor is not to miss a scheduled maintenance appointment, which could lead to more expensive problems with a T-GDI engine. With that in mind, since this is your first car and maintenance costs are your priority, go with the Maruti Brezza 1.0 Turbo. Its overall maintenance costs are lower, and Maruti Suzuki after-sales is more reliable and hassle-free overall. With the recent update, the Brezza is also pretty closely matched on features to the XUV 3XO. The Mahindra has advantages like a larger sunroof, dual-zone climate control, digital dials and radar-based Level 2 ADAS, but the Brezza has advantages like ventilated front seats and a PM2.5 filter. It also has sensor-based Level 1 ADAS, and crucially, both cars now have 5-star NCAP ratings.The Mahindra XUV 3XO is more powerful and more fun to drive, but on most other fronts, the Brezza is as good as, if not better, and thus should be your choice.

I have a Tata Nexon Creative AMT that is only a year old, but I have already had to replace the spark plugs four times and the ignition coil once. I am still facing engine misfires and vibrations inside the car. I am honestly fed up with Tata's service, as they have been unable to resolve the issue. I am therefore planning to sell the Nexon and buy a Kia Seltos with a manual transmission this time. My priority was safety earlier, and it remains my top priority. I am planning to buy a sub-compact SUV. My budget is Rs. 13-14 lakh, and my priorities are a smooth automatic transmission and good mileage. I am considering the Brezza ZXi AT, Sonet HXT DCT, and Venue HX6 DCT. I am very confused because the Brezza’s torque-converter automatic offers good fuel efficiency but lacks some features, while the Sonet and Venue offer all the features I need. However, I am concerned that the DCT may be less fuel-efficient and could involve higher maintenance costs. My daily commute is around 30 km, mostly in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. Please suggest which one would be the best choice for my requirements.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza ZXI AT. Your priorities are a smooth automatic, good fuel efficiency and a daily 30km commute in heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic. The Brezza’s 6-speed torque converter automatic is the best fit for this usage. It is smooth, reliable and well suited to stop-start conditions, and the naturally aspirated petrol engine is efficient and easy to live with. Maruti’s service reach and low maintenance costs add to the ownership peace of mind.The Sonet and Venue DCTs are good cars, but the DCT gearbox is not ideal for heavy traffic. It can feel jerky at low speeds.Alternatively, if you can arrange for home charging, the Tata Punch EV is an excellent option.

Go for the Hyundai Venue. With your daily 35km commute in Delhi NCR traffic, comfort and low maintenance are key, and the Venue delivers on both. The 1.2 NA petrol is smooth, refined and easy to drive in stop-start conditions, while Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The HX6T variant also gives you a good balance of features without pushing the budget too far.The Sonet HTK+O is mechanically very similar, but the Venue is a newer model and offers a more spacious cabin. The XUV 3XO is also a good option, but its turbo petrol engine won't be as efficient as the Hyundai’s.Overall, the Venue is the most sensible upgrade from your Grand i10 for daily city use.
