Please suggest between Seltos IVT HTX/GTX petrol and Mahindra XUV 7XO automatic petrol AX5/AX7. The car will be mainly for driving in Mumbai city with occasional long-distance travel.

Choose the Kia Seltos IVT petrol in GTX guise. Its IVT smoothness and relatively compact size make it easier to drive in Mumbai traffic, especially important since that’s where you’ll be spending most of your time.
The IVT (CVT) is smooth and seamless in operation and works rather well with the refined 1.5-litre NA engine. The engine feels responsive to light inputs and creeps smartly, making it very easy to drive in stop-and-go traffic. It also simulates shifts in eight steps, so it feels more natural than most CVTs and doesn’t exhibit too much of the rubber-band effect they are known for.
What you do give up is the space and outright performance of the Mahindra XUV 7XO. It is significantly larger, has more room on the inside and even a third row suited for occasional use. The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol is also very powerful and hauls this big SUV with remarkable ease, but expect poor fuel efficiency in city use.
On your test drive, spend 10 minutes in start-stop traffic to assess creep and brake feel, attempt a tight U-turn, and confirm if rear-seat space is adequate for your family.

XUV 700 is discontinued, instead Mahindra released 7XO. Mahindra 7XO is a better car than Tata Harrier.

I am a retired person, and have a Jeep compass limited plus 2018 manual model which I am looking to change. My city driving would be only 5%and once in 2 months I go on long road trips mostly on highways and rural locations. My budget is around 16-18 lakhs on road and looking at any Diesel Kia seltos or Mahindra 7xo. Kindly suggest which car and variant would be more suitable .

Rural locations, so bad roads. Prefer Mahindra 7XO, as it's robust compared to Seltos.

I am currently confused between the Kia Seltos CVT Petrol and the Tata Sierra Petrol Manual. After test driving both cars, I found the Sierra’s fit and finish, interior quality, and overall polish to be noticeably behind the Seltos. However, most automotive reviews and magazines seem to be praising the Sierra very highly, which has made the decision more confusing for me. I am also slightly concerned about Tata’s long-term reliability, service experience, and whether the Sierra will age as well as rivals like the Seltos over the years. Please advice.

The Tata Sierra deserves the praise because it does a lot right. It is spacious, practical, has a strong road presence, and from a pure packaging point of view, it is an impressive product. But if your concern is long-term ownership confidence, consistency in quality and overall longevity, the Kia Seltos is the safer bet.The Seltos simply feels more polished and more mature as a product. Interior quality is better, the CVT automatic is smooth and stress-free in daily use, and Kia’s ownership experience and long-term consistency inspire more confidence than Tata currently does. That does not mean the Sierra is a bad car, but if you are the kind of buyer who notices panel fit, switch quality and overall finish, the Kia will likely keep you happier over time. The Sierra’s advantages are space and the fact that it feels like the newer, more interesting product. But if this is a rational long-term purchase and not an emotional one, we would pick the Seltos CVT.

My fiancée and I are planning to buy our first car together. We are both in the 24-26 age group and have a combined monthly income of around ₹2.2 lakh. We are considering a budget of approximately ₹16 lakh, with a planned down payment of around ₹4 lakh. My fiancé is keen on buying the Renault Duster 1.3L Turbo Manual, while I am more inclined towards options like the Kia Seltos or Toyota Hyryder. I am mainly concerned about the Duster’s long-term resale value, service experience, and maintenance costs compared to the other options.

The new Renault Duster 1.3 turbo manual is the enthusiast’s choice. It will be the most enjoyable to drive of the lot, feels robust, rides very well and has that proper SUV character many buyers still love. If your fiancé enjoys driving, we completely understand the appeal. Your concern is valid, though. Resale value is unlikely to be as strong as a Kia, Toyota or Maruti-backed product, and Renault’s aftersales network is not as wide or as confidence-inspiring as Kia or Toyota. The Kia Seltos is the balanced all-rounder here. It feels more premium inside, is easier to recommend from a resale and ownership confidence perspective, comes with a richer feature set and is simply a very polished product overall. It may not have the same rugged SUV flavour as the Duster, but as a first car for a young couple, it is probably the easiest to live with. The Toyota Hyryder takes a different route. If long-term ownership, reliability and fuel efficiency are high on your priority list, it makes a lot of sense. But if you are comparing the naturally aspirated petrol against the turbo Duster or even the Seltos turbo, it will not feel nearly as exciting or as effortless from behind the wheel.
