    Hi, I’m planning to buy a new SUV. My daily running is about 50 km. Should I choose an EV, petrol, or diesel? I’ve shortlisted the Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV9S, the upcoming Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel, and the Tata Sierra petrol. Please help me decide.

    An EV will surely offer a smooth driving experience with the lowest running cost. However, it does have its challenges when it comes to long-distance trips. The charging infrastructure needed for a hassle-free road trip is not yet in place, and therefore, if you choose to take your SUV on a long-distance trip, it will require a lot of planning. 

    Considering your 50km running, a petrol SUV will do the job well, and in that case, the new Tata Sierra is a good option. It has a strong road presence, a strong petrol engine and a roomy cabin with a lengthy feature list as well. Unlike the XUV 7XO, it isn't a 7-seater. So if you don't need the third row, the Sierra is a good option to consider.

In your budget, you can get the AX7 trim that gets a well-equipped cabin with the necessary features.

    Asked by: Vivek Hi, I have owned a Maruti Ignis for seven years and want to upgrade to an SUV with a budget of ₹17 lakh. My must-haves are an automatic torque-converter or CVT transmission and ventilated seats. Which car should I choose? Also, should I wait for the Brezza facelift in case it offers ventilated seats? Considering your requirements, the Hyundai Venue in HX10 guise will be a good option. It gets a turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox and has a lengthy feature list, including ventilated front seats. However, if you can stretch your budget a bit, you can also get the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Zeta variant that gets you ventilated front seats and a much bigger car than the Venue. It has a smooth torque converter automatic gearbox, a comfy ride and peace of mind that comes with the Maruti badge. The Brezza facelift does not have a known launch time at the moment. Also worth noting is that the Grand Vitara is being offered with discounts, and you can strike a good deal now.

    Asked by: R MURALE Between the Jupiter 125 and the Xoom 125, which scooter offers a better and more comfortable ride? I’m 57 years old and will be using the scooter daily for about 10 km. Between the two, the TVS will be the more comfortable and practical choice.The Hero Xoom 125 does have a comfortable suspension, but its seating comfort is rather average. In comparison, the TVS Jupiter 125 offers a spacious, almost-flat seat and a well-judged suspension setup. Both these factors make it a better option, and that’s why we would steer you toward the Jupiter.You could also consider the Suzuki Access125, a scooter which we found to be quite comfortable during our time with it.

I’m confused whether to buy a hybrid or an electric vehicle right now, as EVs sometimes face reliability issues. Please advise. Considering your high daily running, an EV would be the better choice. For roughly 90km every day, you need good comfort, features and a hassle-free experience with long range. The MG Windsor Essence Pro would be a good option to consider, as it has a large 52.9kWh battery pack with a range of over 400km on one charge. What's also impressive, is the spacious cabin, comfy ride and the host of features. The only downside is that all the tech is buried in the touchscreen, and it takes some time to get familiar with the setup. You can also consider MG's Battery As A Service scheme that allows you to personalise your ownership and resale, and pay only for how much you drive it. MG's EV tech is one of the best in the business and has a positive reputation when it comes to reliability.
