Hi experts, I have decided to go for the facelifted Seltos. Now I'm confused between the 1.5 Turbo Petrol iMT and the 1.5 Diesel MT. I did not get a chance to test-drive the iMT version, but I drove the diesel MT. My requirements are an enthusiastic driving experience on highways and strong overtaking performance both in the city and on highways. Very high speeds are not of much interest to me, but quick and powerful acceleration is. The specifications of the 1.5 Turbo Petrol look impressive and on par with the diesel. With the iMT, will I still get the low-rpm torque that a diesel usually generates? Also, for an aggressive driving style, I am concerned that there will be a significant difference in fuel economy. Is there a significant difference between the two engines in terms of pure performance, and will the turbo-petrol still make sense despite giving lower mileage for an enjoyable drive? My running would be around 8,000km a year, with a 60:40 split between highway and city driving. Also, will there be any issues with the panoramic sunroof in the long term? I have seen some posts on social media about them breaking and leaking. Looking forward to your answer. Thanks in advance.

With your usage pattern and priorities, the Seltos 1.5 Turbo Petrol iMT would be the recommendation. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol is the more exciting engine of the two. It revs more freely, responds more eagerly to throttle inputs and feels noticeably quicker when accelerating hard. The diesel remains a very capable engine, but its strength lies in effortless torque and efficiency rather than outright performance.
As for low-rpm pull, the diesel still has an advantage. It delivers its torque earlier and feels stronger at very low engine speeds. However, the turbo petrol has enough mid-range punch that most buyers will not miss the diesel's low-end grunt. In fact, once the turbo is on boost, the petrol feels more energetic and rewarding, especially during overtakes and spirited driving.
Given your annual running of just 8,000km, fuel economy should not be the deciding factor. The diesel will undoubtedly be more efficient, particularly when driven aggressively, but the annual fuel cost difference is unlikely to be significant enough to outweigh the enjoyment offered by the turbo petrol.
As for the panoramic sunroof, there is no widespread reliability issue with the Kia Seltos. The occasional reports of leaks or shattered glass tend to be isolated incidents that gain disproportionate attention on social media.

What is the real-world mileage of the Tata Sierra NA engine? Is it a good choice? I am okay with its linear power delivery because I am used to it. I want a safe family car, decent mileage, and good road presence. I am confused between the Smart Plus Sierra and Kia Seltos HTK.

The Tata Sierra 1.5 NA is quite a heavy car and, despite being tuned for efficiency, that weight does affect fuel consumption. In real-world conditions, you can expect Sierra mileage to fall between 7 and 9 kpl in the city and about 12 and 14 kpl on the highway, depending on how and where you drive.The bigger issue is performance. The 1.5 NA engine feels very sluggish, and you will need to work the engine and gearbox hard, especially when overtaking or when you need a quick burst of speed in traffic.Where this Tata car scores strongly is in road presence, safety, and overall family appeal. It feels solid, has a commanding stance, and is well suited for comfortable, relaxed driving.The Kia Seltos HTK, on the other hand, is the easier car to live with day to day. Its 1.5 NA engine feels noticeably far more responsive and lighter on its feet, and it is also more fuel-efficient in real-world use.So, if your priority is a safe, solid family car with strong road presence and you’re okay with the poor performance and lower mileage, the Sierra works. Hi. I have shortlisted two cars for my purchase, Hyundai Verna HX6 IVT and Kia Seltos HTK IVT, both petrol. My running will be 80% in the city of Kolkata. I plan to keep the car for 8-10 years. This will be the only car in the family. General occupancy while running will be 2-3 people (people in their 30s and occasionally older people). What could be a better choice as a family car?

The Hyundai Verna HX6 IVT is better equipped, and it has a larger boot than the Seltos. If you do a lot of airport runs, this is the better option. And being a sedan, it will feel nicer to drive than the Kia car, and it is likely to be more efficient too.Pick the Kia Seltos HTK IVT for its elevated driving position, more modern interior, and high ground clearance. Also, the Seltos will be easier for the elderly to get in and out. Overall, it will feel a bit nicer and comfier; hence, it is the one we'd recommend.

Hi, I am a teacher and a first-time female driver with a budget of Rs. 11.5 lakh. We'd recommend a petrol automatic. With a daily running of around 46km and an ownership period of 15 years, it offers the best balance of low ownership costs, reliability and ease of use for a first-time driver.We wouldn't let E20 fuel influence your decision. Modern E20-compliant petrol cars are designed to run on it, and there is no official roadmap beyond E20. It isn't a reason to avoid buying a petrol car today. A CNG automatic will certainly reduce your fuel bills, but the higher purchase price, reduced boot space and limited automatic options make CNG car less attractive unless fuel savings are your overriding priority. An electric car will have the lowest running costs, but at your budget, you'll have to compromise on size or features, and recovering the higher upfront cost will take time.Given your budget and usage, we'd look at the Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift automatic which will launch soon if you can stretch slightly, or the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta+ AGS if you want to stay within budget. Both are easy to drive, have good ground clearance for the 6km of rough village roads and come backed by Maruti Suzuki's extensive service network. If you prefer a smoother automatic, the Hyundai Exter SX AMT is also worth considering.
