My driving is primarily within city limits, with occasional outstation trips 3 to 4 times a year. I currently own a 2018 Honda City SV Edge Edition 1.5 i-VTEC Petrol Manual and am looking to switch to a CNG car. My priorities are value for money, a refined engine, low running costs, and low maintenance. I initially considered the Tata Nexon Smart Plus S CNG, but I have ruled it out due to my poor experience with Tata's service and showroom experience. I have now shortlisted the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder S CNG and Maruti Suzuki Victoris LXI CNG. Which of these two would be the better choice for my requirements?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG. Both the Victoris and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder are essentially the same car underneath, sharing the same engine, platform and CNG system. The key difference is that the Victoris is priced more competitively, which makes it the better value proposition. Also, the Victoris features an underbody CNG tank, giving it a much larger boot space, adding to the practicality. However, you don't get a spare wheel in the Victoris. In terms of refinement, running costs and maintenance, there is no meaningful difference between the two. Toyota’s service network is strong, but Maruti’s is even wider and more accessible, which further strengthens the ownership case. Since you are coming from a Honda City and prioritising low running costs and reliability, the Victoris CNG is the more sensible and value-driven choice. The only reason to pick the Hyryder would be a strong preference for the Toyota badge or a particularly good local dealer relationship. Otherwise, the Victoris CNG is the smarter buy.

I am planning to upgrade from a Toyota Yaris CVT to either the Kia Seltos IVT or the Toyota Hyryder. My annual usage is around 9,000 km, with 60% driving in Bangalore city and 40% on highway trips. Please help me choose between the Kia Seltos IVT and Toyota Hyryder.

I am considering the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid top model. I have never owned an automatic car. I drove it and found it a bit underpowered. Will it be safe to take it to the mountains? Will it climb steep roads without any issues? Is overtaking at high speeds difficult? Is it worth buying? If not, please suggest another option.

It is smooth, efficient and easy to drive in the city, and the hybrid system works well in stop-start traffic. However, your concern about feeling underpowered is valid. The hybrid system is tuned for efficiency rather than outright performance, and under hard acceleration, you will feel that the engine is straining a bit. Overall, performance feels adequate, and while it will climb hills and handle mountain roads without issue, performance doesn't feel particularly strong or effortless like some turbo-petrol or diesel cars.This Toyota car is a great choice if your priority is efficiency and ease of use, but if you want more performance and better overtaking ability, a 1.5 turbo-petrol automatic powered SUV like a Kia Seltos or Skoda Kushaq/VW Taigun would be a better fit.

With a running of just 6,000 km a year, a petrol engine is the right choice, and the Harrier petrol is a good fit if you like the size and space. The bigger question is the waiting period. Tata’s official waiting periods can vary by city and dealer, but for the Harrier petrol, it is not unusual to see waits of 2-3 months depending on demand and allocation. If your dealer is already saying it may not arrive on time, it is worth checking with other Tata dealers in your city to see if they have a shorter queue or a cancelled booking in the same variant.If you are happy with the Harrier’s space and comfort, it is worth waiting a few more weeks rather than switching to a different car. The only reason to change would be if you need the car urgently. In that case, the Mahindra XUV 7XO petrol is the closest alternative.
