Hello, I am planning to buy a 6-seater car, and the MG Hector Savvy Pro Petrol Automatic is what I liked the most. Is it a good choice? Are there any other 6-seater options? Middle-row captain seats are a mandatory requirement for me. My budget is a maximum of ₹23 lakh. Thanks in advance. Happy motoring.

The MG Hector Savvy Pro petrol automatic is a good choice. It’s spacious, comfortable and very well-equipped for the price. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with the CVT is smooth, especially in stop-and-go city driving, which makes it easy to live with daily. The captain seats in the middle row are genuinely comfortable, and adding to the comfort is the soft ride quality, along with the relatively low step-in height, which makes getting in and out quite easy for family members.
The main downside of the Hector is fuel efficiency. If your running is limited, you can live with it, but if you frequently do long drives, the higher fuel consumption will show. Also, the suspension is tuned on the softer side. While that helps with comfort, at highway speeds, it doesn’t feel as planted or as confidence-inspiring as something like the Tata Safari.
In your budget, the Safari is really the only other proper 6-seater with middle-row captain seats worth considering. This Tata car is also spacious, comfortable and well-equipped. The new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is smooth and strong enough for most needs, and the Safari feels more stable at higher speeds. It also gets a useful “Boss Mode,” which allows the rear passenger to electrically move the front passenger seat forward for more legroom.

The segment as I understand you are looking at is full size SUV. MG Hector plus Savvy Pro petrol automatic is good choice, the fit finish and interiors are best in class. Looks inside out, the space, its is good at 22.5 Lacs (Delhi onroad). But engine is underpowered, also the 3rd row is too low to sit. Safari petrol lowest variant is Accomplished plus that comes with 6 seater captain seats but its close to 28 Lacs, has a new engine which is again underpowered and tata safari always has issues here and there, showroom experience, service experience is not good. Moreover safari hits the potholes with loud noise. But 3rd row is best in safari. Another option Xuv700 the most powerful engine in the competition with captain seats, but again showroom experience, service experience, waiting periods are not good also you will need to stretch the budget as it is 25.5 Lacs for A7T Auto 6 seater variant. One more option is Toyota Hycross GX (O)AT at 23.5 Lacs but it has just basic features, Good chauffer driven with ample space and middle row captain seats, the 3rd row has good space along with some space for luggage. The seat can also become a flat bed 1st 2nd 3rd row down together on long drives if needed.

I am confused between the 7XO and Safari. I took the test drive of both and loved the rugged suspension setup of the Safari, but I also liked the easy driving nature and dynamics of the 7XO.

Between the two, the Tata Safari does a great job of projecting toughness. It feels solid, has that reassuring heft, and its suspension setup really shines on broken roads and you can carry speed with confidence and it just shrugs off rough patches.That said, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more rounded package overall. Its 2.2-litre diesel is not just more modern, but also noticeably smoother and stronger than the older Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre unit in the Safari. It delivers better drivability in everyday conditions, which makes a difference in city use as well as on the highway.Mahindra car has also worked well on the suspension, and the improvements show. The 7XO feels more composed, offers better ride comfort over a wider range of surfaces, and is simply easier to drive. It has lighter controls, better balance, and a more user-friendly nature overall.Where the Safari still holds an edge is in the third row. It’s more usable and accommodating, whereas the 7XO’s last row is quite tight and best reserved for occasional use.So unless third-row space is a priority, the 7XO stands out as the better all-rounder. It’s more refined, easier to live with, and ultimately the more modern SUV.

I have Tata Hexa XT2 4x2 model that I bought in 2019, and it has done almost 1 lakh km. It is still performing well with no issues, but it has a manual gearbox. I also own smaller automatics like the K10 AGS (2023) and XUV 3XO AMT, but I do not have a 7-seater. Which among Safari AT or XUV 7XO (diesel AT only) is worth buying?
