Hi, I am planning to buy a 7-seater, as I need space to install two child seats and also accommodate additional passengers (staff). I have shortlisted the Toyota Innova Hycross, which is costing me around ₹39.8 lakh on-road. Should I go ahead with this purchase, or is it better to wait for the facelift? Also, are there any better alternatives I should consider?

You're on the right track with the Toyota Innova Hycross. The good thing about this Toyota car is that it offers not just space, but also flexibility. If you choose the bench-seat second row - the 8-seater in Toyota parlance - you get more seats overall, but at a small penalty to ease of access. With the captain seats in the middle row, you can fix a child seat on each and still have a clear walkway to the third row, so the staff can get in and out without disturbing the kids.

It rides comfortably over bad roads, feels very smooth and quiet in city traffic, and the hybrid makes stop-and-go driving easy. It’s also easy to live with over the years, which matters when the car will be full most days. On the facelift, there is no firm date or detail in the market right now, but a future update is likely to bring small styling and feature tweaks, not a big change to space or the way it drives, and prices usually go up.

Another alternative, if you don't mind an EV, is the BYD eMax 7. Its on-road price could actually work out cheaper than the Innova Hycross with subsidies. It's not quite as spacious, but it comes close; it's well equipped, and it also offers 6- and 7-seat options. It is also even lower on running costs, but then you'll have to tailor your usage to suit an EV. Overall, however, the Innova Hycross appears to be the best bet for you.

Hello, I am planning to buy a car for my family, but I am confused about which one to choose. We are a family of seven, and our car usage is quite low. We mostly use it for long-distance family trips. Which car would you recommend for my family? Should I consider an SUV or a 7-seater MPV? I would appreciate your suggestions based on comfort, safety, mileage, and overall value for money.

For a family of seven with low usage and mostly long-distance trips, the Toyota Innova HyCross is the best recommendation. This Toyota car is a proper 7-seater with genuinely usable third-row space, excellent comfort and a reputation for reliability that makes it a stress-free long-term ownership proposition. The hybrid powertrain is also well suited to your usage, offering good fuel efficiency on highways and low running costs over time.If you are looking for a more budget-friendly option, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is a sensible alternative. It is comfortable, reliable and offers good value for money, though this Maruti Suzuki car is not as spacious or as premium as the HyCross.Between an SUV and an MPV, an MPV is the better choice for your needs. SUVs may look more rugged, but most 7-seater SUVs compromise on third-row space and comfort, whereas MPVs like the HyCross and Ertiga are designed specifically for family travel and long-distance comfort. If you are looking for a more premium and feature-rich alternative, the Kia Carens Clavis is worth considering. It offers a more premium cabin and a good feature set, but the HyCross remains the more comfortable and reliable long-term choice.

Dear Autocar team, I am planning to buy a petrol automatic SUV priced under Rs 20 lakh. I have been considering the Tata Sierra petrol automatic but am concerned about Tata's after-sales service. My key requirements are comfortable seating for four to five adults, a spacious midsize SUV rather than a compact SUV, strong safety standards and build quality, and modern features such as a 360-degree camera. Which options should I consider?

Based on your requirements, the Tata Sierra turbo-petrol automatic is a good fit. It is a genuinely spacious midsize SUV with a wide cabin that comfortably accommodates five adults. Plus, it offers a premium interior with a good feature set, including a 360-degree camera. Safety and build quality are also among its key strengths.Your concern about Tata's after-sales service is understandable, and the experience continues to vary depending on the dealership. If you are looking for alternatives, the Kia Seltos petrol IVT is an excellent option. The petrol engine isn't as powerful, but Kia's ownership experience is generally more consistent compared to Tata's. The Hyundai Creta is due for a full generation change in 2027, so it is not the best time to buy one.Overall, the Sierra turbo-petrol automatic remains the best fit for your requirements. If you are still concerned about after-sales, the Seltos is the safer ownership choice, but you will be compromising on cabin and boot space.

Hi Autocar Team, I am planning to buy a seven-seater car. I have test-driven the Renault Triber Turbo and Citroen Aircross X and was impressed by what both offer at their price points. However, the Aircross put a wide smile on my face. As a current Maruti Suzuki user, I did not consider the Ertiga because it feels similar to our Swift. I liked the Aircross X but am sceptical about Citroen's service network and spare parts availability. However, there are three Citroen showrooms within 45 km of my place. Please suggest which car I should choose. My budget: Rs. 15 lakh Current vehicle: Second-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol (2017) Annual usage: Around 10,000 km, with a 50:30:20 split between town, highway and city driving Requirement: A seven-seater car

The Citroen's interiors feel more special, its engine is more powerful, and its ride-handling balance is outstanding; however, for seven adults, it won't be as comfortable as the Triber. In fact, the Triber's superb packaging makes it genuinely comfortable for passengers in all three rows, despite its compact sub-4-meter dimensions. The new turbo-petrol engine makes it an effortless performer, and its ride quality feels very mature too. Moreover, the Triber Turbo is also much more affordable in comparison, making it outstanding value for money. Yes, the Aircross X will appeal to your heart, but given Citroen's limited service network and cramped third row, the Triber Turbo is the more sensible choice.
