I want to sell my Kia Carens and buy the cheapest electric 7-seater within a budget of ₹26 lakh. I want good features, ample space, and a premium feel. Please suggest.

There's currently only one 7-seater EV under Rs 26 lakh - the Kia Carens Clavis EV.

The Kia Carens Clavis EV comes with two battery pack options – a 42kWh unit with an ARAI-claimed range of 404km and a 51.4kWh unit with an ARAI-certified range of 490km. The smaller battery pack powers a 135hp electric motor, while the larger battery pack gets a 171hp unit.

This Kia car has a comfy cabin and comes with the latest features, like a sunroof, 360-degree camera, ADAS tech, ventilated front seats and much more. Prices for the Kia Carens Clavis EV range from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

Coming to your question, the Honda Amaze, while practical and comfy, does not have the driving thrill you would want. The Volkswagen Virtus, while impressive, will not fit in your budget apart from the base variant, which isn't too impressive. The Citroen Basalt X will be a good pick out of this lot. It has a punchy turbo-petrol engine that is lovely to drive, the ride comfort is excellent, and it has a large boot as well. Also, while it is feature-packed, it isn't unnecessarily complicated, and the functions are easy to use. The Basalt X would be our recommendation.

It is hugely practical with a spacious cabin, the EV powertrain is smooth and efficient, and it isn't uncomfortably large to drive as a daily car. It gets a feature-rich cabin, well-sorted ergonomics, comfy ride and seats and Kia's reliability and after-sales. It is a hassle-free car to own, and one that is our top recommendation.

My budget is ₹10-12 lakh, and I’m considering switching to a diesel car. Given my usage, would you recommend switching to diesel or sticking with petrol - and which car should I upgrade to? Considering your high annual usage, a diesel SUV would be a better choice for you. The Kia Sonet with a diesel engine would be a good upgrade for you. It has a torquey 1.5-litre diesel engine that is refined and has good punch on highways while also being efficient. The 6-speed manual gearbox is slick to use, and within your budget, you can opt for the Kia Sonet HTK+ trim that gets a well-appointed cabin as well. Equipment like automatic climate control, reversing camera with sensors and a better quality interior and bigger boot tips the scales to the Sonet.

Asked by: JAGDEEP SINGH BH I plan to upgrade my car. My monthly running is around 1,000–1,500 km. I’ve shortlisted the Innova HyCross (petrol, non-hybrid) and the Mahindra XUV700 (petrol). Which one should I buy? My budget is up to ₹25 lakh. The Mahindra XUV700 would be a better choice in this comparison. The Toyota car, while more spacious, is quite thirsty in its non-hybrid guise, with an efficiency of around 7kpl in the city and around 9kpl on the highway. Considering your monthly running, a petrol SUV would be the right choice and here, the XUV700 is the better product. It has better features than the Toyota Innova HyCross. The ride and handling are nicer, and the engine performs a lot better, too. It is the better overall package and our recommendation.
