I live in a small town called Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. My monthly driving mileage is approximately 1,400 km. I have a preference for modern and good-looking cars. I have shortlisted the Venue HX5 Diesel and the Victoris CNG. Please share your suggestions.

It fits because diesel pulls stronger at low speeds and on open roads, so overtakes are easier even with family and luggage, and you will not have to plan trips around CNG pumps, which can be fewer and have queues in smaller towns. The new Venue is also compact and easy to park on narrow streets. This Hyundai car feels steady on rough patches common around small towns in Rajasthan, and Hyundai’s service network is wide.

It also looks modern inside and out, which is what you are after. Even in the HX5 trim, the quality levels are high and there are modern design flourishes inside and out that keep the Venue from looking too basic or cheap. For instance, you still get a dual screen layout which looks crisp and high tech, as well as projector headlamps and LED DRLs on the outside. The Victoris, in comparison, looks a lot more conservative in its design, even though it is a larger vehicle. What's more, even though the Victoris has a larger boot than the Venue, its rear seat space is quite similar.

It is the larger of the two, with a more spacious cabin and a larger boot, which makes a difference on long trips with luggage. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine runs well on CNG, and Maruti's CNG calibration is among the best in the business.The Nexon, with its turbo engine, has a bit more performance for highway overtakes, whereas the Victoris' naturally aspirated engine might need a downshift or two. My daily running is around 10-15km, mostly in the city. I'm considering the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, and MG Windsor. I don't want a sunroof, but an automatic transmission, a 360-degree camera and low maintenance are my priorities. Please advise.

Go for the Kia Seltos Petrol IVT if it fits your budget, with the Hyundai Creta Petrol CVT as an equally good alternative if you prefer its styling or have a better local dealer. With a running of just 10 to 15km a day and predominantly city driving, a petrol automatic is the most sensible choice. A strong hybrid like the Victoris will save some fuel in traffic, but at this mileage, it will take a long time to recover its higher purchase price. The MG Windsor also doesn't make financial sense unless you have reliable home charging and specifically want to switch to an EV.The Seltos and Creta offer a very polished ownership experience with smooth, naturally aspirated petrol engines and reliable automatic gearboxes that are well-suited to stop-start traffic. They also have widespread service networks, good resale value and are likely to be easier and cheaper to own over the long term than newer alternatives.Since you don't want a sunroof but do want an automatic and a 360-degree camera, look at the variant lineup carefully, as these features are often bundled together.

Go for the Brezza, but wait for the new model as it's just a few weeks away. The Brezza is easy to drive in traffic, rides well over broken roads and speed breakers, and the automatic is smooth and stress-free. The cabin is airy, the visibility is good, and Maruti service reach in the city makes ownership simple. For the odd Pune or Panchgani run, it feels stable enough if driven in a relaxed manner. A point to consider if you often go up the ghats with four people and luggage: the 1.5 petrol is smooth but not very strong, so overtakes need a little planning.If that bothers you, the Skoda Kylaq with the automatic is the better alternative. It feels quicker in the hills and in gaps, and the gearbox responds a bit faster, which helps both on the ghats and in stop-go Mumbai traffic. You will trade a slightly firmer ride and a lower city mileage for that extra shove.For mostly city use, though, buying the Brezza is the sensible call.

Go for the MG Windsor Exclusive. At Rs 14 lakh, it offers the best ownership experience of the three. The Windsor is a genuinely spacious family car with a comfortable ride, a premium cabin and a strong feature set. It feels like a proper step up from your 2018 Nexon, with a more mature driving experience and a much more spacious rear seat. The Nexon Empowered 45 is a good car, but it is essentially an evolution of what you already own, and the Windsor simply feels like a bigger upgrade for the money. The Punch Empowered S40 is a solid value proposition, but it is a smaller car and does not feel as premium or as spacious as the Windsor. The only real drawback with the Windsor is that MG's service network is not as extensive as Tata's, but it is still a well-supported product in most major cities. Overall, the Windsor Exclusive is the best fit for your budget and your upgrade expectations.

I am considering the Skoda Kushaq, but am confused between the 1.0 and 1.5 variants. Around 80% of my driving is within the city, with occasional highway trips. I also want to know how effective the air conditioning is in the facelifted model, both in the 1.0 and 1.5 variants.

Pick the Skoda Kushaq 1.0. Your driving is mostly in the city, and the 1.0 feels easier and smoother at low speeds, uses a bit less fuel in traffic, and costs a lot less. It still has enough go for occasional highway runs. The 1.5 only really pays off if you do frequent long trips with a full load or you enjoy driving and value the added performance. One catch with the 1.0 is that it sounds a bit gruff when pushed.About the AC, the facelift’s system is the same across 1.0 and 1.5. Skoda has addressed the early cars’ cooling complaints. The upgraded compressor now delivers best-in-class cooling, rapidly bringing the temperature down even on the hottest of days.
