Am looking for either a hybrid or an EV. I drive in the city weekly for 300 km on average. I already own a Ciaz, which I have used for 9 years and planning to sell it. My budget is within 25 lakhs on the road. I don't want to step into Maruti again because of the sheet metal quality. I also do trips twice yearly to someplace within 500 km. Could you help me pick the right one? My foremost concern is mileage, pickup, comfort, and safety. I would also use this car for another 10 years.

Pick the Honda City e: HEV. Your driving is mostly in the city, and this strong hybrid is very fuel efficient there, easily crossing 20kpl, while the electric assist gives you quick responses and a very smooth drive. It is also a comfy, quiet sedan with loads of rear space, a sorted ride, and a proper safety kit including 6 airbags and ADAS. For those twice-a-year 500 km trips, you do them like any petrol car with no charging stops or range stress. It fits under your Rs. 25 lakh on-road budget and should be easy to live with for 10 years.

The only real trade-off is a smaller boot because of the battery, and the sedan’s ground clearance is not SUV-like.

If you truly want a full EV, look at the Hyundai Creta Electric. It is within budget, very cheap to run for your 300 km weekly city use, and feels quick and quiet. Just be ready to plan those 500 km trips around fast chargers and a 40-60 minute top-up.

Pick the strong-hybrid variants of the Maruti Grand Vitara, Victoris or Toyota Hyryder. The hybrid powertrain is very efficient; it is an automatic, and Toyota’s hybrid tech has a proven track record worldwide, so keeping it for 8-10 years should be stress-free.Since you don't drive out of the station at all, you could also consider the Hyundai Creta Electric with a 42kWh battery. For your daily office commute, it is a smooth, reliable option.

I actually do not want an Ertiga, XL6, or Kia Carens. I am looking for something a bit different with better road presence and a more premium comfort feel. Can you suggest some good used 6-7 seater options in the Rs 7-12 lakh range? Also, considering that my usage is mostly city driving with occasional highway trips and not very high running, should I go for a petrol or diesel car? Which option would make more sense in terms of maintenance, reliability, fuel efficiency, and long-term ownership?

In that price bracket, your other 6-7-seater options are Renault Triber and Nissan Gravite. These offerings are surprisingly spacious and practical, and since your usage is limited to the city, they will feel very user-friendly, with their light controls and relatively compact dimensions.Alternatively, you could consider a Citroen Aircross. Being a rare sight on our roads and having proper SUV credentials, it delivers in terms of road presence. However, its third row is not as spacious as other seven-seaters listed, and you will have to stretch your budget by a few lakhs to get this, since the seven-seater is available with the more powerful turbo-petrol engine.Taking all things into consideration, we'd urge you to reconsider and opt for the 1.5 petrol Kia Carens or Maruti Ertiga if you want a comfortable seven-seater.

It rides over broken roads better than almost anything at this price, the seats are soft and supportive, and the diesel is quiet and smooth, so long trips feel easy. Space is good, the back seat is friendly for three, and the boot is big for airport runs or weekend bags.The catch is value. At this price, others give more showy features and tech. Also, the Citroen brand has a small dealer network, so ready service is available only in pockets. Further, the Citroen brand is not very strong at the moment, and this will impact resale value down the road.Also note, the diesel engine is best suited for longer runs. If your daily life includes rough roads and frequent highway trips, pay for the comfort. If you want rich features, badge pull, or mostly city use, the price feels high.

The Hyundai Venue diesel is a good option for your needs. It offers the ground clearance, boot space, and cabin space you are looking for. Its smooth diesel engine is one of its highlights, and the ride quality remains comfortable even over broken roads and rough patches.If cabin space is top priority, the Kia Syros is worth a look. It is incredibly spacious and also offers added flexibility with sliding rear seats, allowing you to make more room for luggage when needed. Cabin quality is very impressive too. However, the Syros does deliver a firm ride, and that takes away from the comfort experience. You should also look at the Mahindra XUV 3XO. The cabin is roomy, and ride comfort is impressive. There is a toughness to the Mahindra that you will appreciate over bad patches of road. However, the Mahindra offers the least room for luggage.

Around 3 months ago, I sold my Toyota Fortuner Legender 4x2 (which was just 2 years and 9 months old) because I grew highly frustrated with its hard steering and lack of modern tech features, specifically ADAS. To replace it, I purchased a Mahindra Thar Roxx AX7L Diesel Automatic 4x2 a month ago. However, I only plan to drive it 2 days a week. Additionally, my wife purchased a Mahindra Thar Roxx MX1 Manual last year in November. I am now looking to finance another vehicle via an auto loan, with a budget of Rs. 18 Lakh to Rs. 28 Lakh. This new vehicle will be used for rough-and-tough regular city driving 3 to 4 days a week in heavy traffic. It will also serve as the primary vehicle for occasional long highway trips with my family. My Strict Requirements include: Status & Road Presence: This is non-negotiable. Even though it is my 3-to-4-day city vehicle, it must command road respect and serve as a status symbol, while offering the light steering and ADAS tech my Fortuner lacked. Fuel & Transmission: Diesel Automatic is preferred, but I am very open to considering Strong Hybrids (especially the upcoming generation of high-efficiency models). I can manage DPF requirements without issue if going with diesel. Ownership Cycle: I do not hold onto cars for long; my replacement cycle is strictly 3 to 4 years. End Goal: Exceptionally high resale value. I need a vehicle that second-hand dealers can easily flip to out-of-state buyers for a premium when I am ready to sell, clear the loan, and upgrade. Dealbreakers: Absolutely no to Toyota HyCross (my family finds it bulky, dated, and associated with the taxi segment). The XUV 7XO AX7L Diesel AT is the cleanest fit for your requirement today, and frankly, none of the other current options line up as well with the exact brief you have laid out.The fact that you already own two Mahindra cars is not necessarily a negative from a financial point of view either, because right now Mahindra SUVs have some of the strongest demand and resale momentum in the market. In fact, from a resale perspective over a 3 to 4 year ownership cycle, the 7XO is probably the safest bet in your shortlist. It also solves the exact frustrations you had with the Fortuner by offering much lighter controls, modern ADAS tech and a far more feature rich experience while still maintaining proper SUV presence.The new Seltos diesel AT is a very polished product and will likely feel more premium inside, but you have already identified the key issue yourself. It still feels like a size smaller in terms of sheer road presence and overall “status factor” compared to something like the 7XO.The Venue diesel AT should not even be in this discussion. It may be sensible, but it does not deliver the sense of occasion, size or highway authority you are clearly looking for.As for waiting, the upcoming Creta and Seltos strong hybrids expected next year will make sense from an efficiency perspective, but they will still fundamentally remain mid size SUVs. The RAV4 Hybrid is not even a confirmed India launch yet, and even if Toyota does bring it here, expect it to be priced aggressively high because it will almost certainly come in as a CKD or CBU initially.
