Hi, I am planning to transition from a Honda Dio to a geared motorcycle. Although my dream bike is a Royal Enfield but I am a bit confused after looking at the Triumph Speed T4. My budget is around Rs. 2.5 lakh, although I can extend it to Rs. 2.75 lakh if required. I mostly ride within the city and currently have no plans for highway riding. I will also be riding with my mother and father occasionally. I am 5'5" tall, weigh 80 kg, and live in Chennai. I am trying to choose between the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and Triumph Speed T4. I am also considering the Triumph Speed 400 if you feel extending my budget would be worthwhile.

Since this is going to be your first bike, should you want to play it safe, going with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 will be our recommendation. It has a low seat, unintimidating power delivery, plush suspension and is easy to manage in the city. You also have an affinity to the brand so going with the characterful Hunter should be quite satisfying in the long run.

However, on the flip side, since you have said you can extend your budget to Rs 2.75 lakh, you should definitely consider the 350cc Triumph Speed 400. The Speed is definitely a more capable and exciting machine than the Hunter and over time, will give you more headroom to grow as a rider. Do bear in mind that the Speed doesn't have as much character as the Hunter and feels more like an appliance in the long run - although depending on what your approach towards your motorcycle is, that may or may not be a bad thing.

The best way to decide between these two would be to take a test ride before you make your decision.

If you want to split the difference between the Hunter and Speed 400, the Speed T4 is an excellent option with middle-of-the-road performance between these two bikes.

@vaidheesh Go for Speed T4 because as this would be your first bike, so safety would be a priority, so weight would also play a major role.

Id recommend the Honda CB350 series, more Royal Enfield feel but better, smoother & more efficient, T4 is also a great option, but I'd recommend test riding before making any choices as both motorcycles are very very different in terms of character & feel.

Which is the better buy: a second-hand first-generation KTM 390 Duke from 2015 for Rs 1.3 lakh, or a new Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z for Rs 2.4 lakh?

This is a very valid question, but in our opinion it deserves a closer look at both motorcycles. The used Gen 1 KTM 390 Duke is a raw, unadulterated pocket rocket, but considering it is nearly 12 years old, you will surely have to spend much more on maintenance and perhaps replace worn-out parts, which will not only be expensive but also time-consuming, as some spares for older discontinued KTMs have started to get a little difficult to obtain.The Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z, on the other hand, will be a brand new bike with a warranty, compatible with E20 fuel and a far more relaxed ownership experience. It is also a genuinely quick and capable motorcycle in its own right, and while it may not have the same raw edge as the old 390 Duke, it is a far more sensible long-term purchase.This is sort of a head vs heart situation, and if you have more than one bike in your garage, then sure, go for the KTM, but if this is to be your sole mode of transport or only two-wheeler, the Bajaj bike is the more logical purchase.

Can I tour all over India on the Yamaha XSR 155 as a solo rider with light luggage, or would there be a better option? I'm 56 years old, but I'm fit enough to comfortably ride around 250 km in a day.

With enough planning and determination, touring across India on the Yamaha XSR155 is certainly possible. The XSR155 is a reliable, lightweight and fuel-efficient motorcycle, but comfort isn't its strongest suit, something you will notice more often, especially over longer distances.If the plan involves spending long days in the saddle, an aftermarket seat for better comfort and a small windscreen to reduce windblast are worthwhile upgrades.Kudos to you for considering such a venture, and we wish you all the very best!

I am seeking a versatile bike suitable for city commuting, highway travel, and challenging roads, including off-road conditions. A word of caution first: none of the bikes you have shortlisted will fit within your budget; you will have to extend it significantly to accommodate them. Also, for your needs, the Hero Xpulse 210 seems the better fit overall. It can easily tackle broken roads and off-road conditions while maintaining good composure when riding on tarmac. Yes, this Hero Motocorp bike will have a taller pillion seat, but with a bit of practice and after a brief acclimatization period, it should likely be a non-issue for your pillion. Take a test ride of the Xpulse and then go ahead with your purchase.

I'm planning to buy my first premium motorcycle and have a budget of around Rs. 3.1 lakh on-road. After a lot of research and multiple test rides, I've narrowed my options down to the Triumph Tracker 400 and the Triumph Scrambler 400 X. I'm looking for advice from owners or experienced riders who have spent time with either or both bikes. I've been riding motorcycles for around 7-8 years and this bike will be my primary motorcycle for at least the next 4-5 years. My usage will be approximately 70-80% city commuting to office and 20-30% rides during weekend with occasional long-distance trips of more than 250 km every 2-3 months. I will almost always have a pillion with me, so pillion comfort, suspension, and overall ride quality are very important factors. I enjoy riding but I'm not someone who rides aggressively all the time. I appreciate a refined, confidence-inspiring motorcycle that is also enjoyable on open highways. I'll be paying the full amount in cash so I'm looking for the best overall ownership experience rather than simply the cheapest option. During my test rides, the Tracker 400 felt lighter, more road-focused, and easier to ride in the city. It had a cowl so didn't get to check it with the pillion. The Scrambler 400 X engine felt somewhat the same but just a little toned down and not as aggresive as the Tracker given the higher power produced and better suspension. However, the braking was not as expected. My main concerns are related to finding more suitable bike for someone who rides mostly in the city but enjoys weekend touring. Which bike is more comfortable for both rider and pillion on longer rides? Does the Scrambler's taller suspension and larger front wheel become a disadvantage in daily city riding? Is the Tracker significantly easier to live with in traffic? Considering the fact that I'll own the bike for 4-5 years, which one offers the better overall ownership experience? I'd really appreciate insights from owners, especially those who have ridden both motorcycles or regularly ride with a pillion. Thanks in advance!

For your usage, where you regularly ride with a pillion both usually inside the city and occassionally on the highway, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X is the better option than its sibling, the Tracker. The Scrambler has a far more upright and commanding rider's triangle, is more spacious for both rider and pillion and its suspension comfort is also much better than the Tracker. Coming to the braking issue on the Scrambler, Triumph (not Bajaj) insists on equipping the bike with organic brake pads which don't have the same life or power as sintered units but its an easy fix. You can fit the sintered pads from any other 350cc Triumph onto the Scrambler and this will be an inexpensive and easy fix to your problem.

Is there any news of a Vespa electric scooter coming to India? I am also waiting for an Ultraviolette electric scooter so that I can exchange my Vespa S125.

No, Vespa currently doesn't retail any electric scooter models in India. The Ultraviolette Tesseract is due to be launched in the first quarter of 2027 and, on paper at least, it has some solid specifications which will force the industry to sit up and take notice.If you want an EV that is classically styled, the Bajaj Chetak is a good option. The original Chetak's design was inspired by the Vespas of yesteryear, and that reminiscence carries forward even today. What helps matters further is that the Chetak is a proven offering from a reputed brand, and it comes in multiple variants to suit different needs. Take a test ride of the Chetak and see if it is up your alley.
