Hi, I am planning to buy a new car, with a budget of 8-12 lakhs on-road, for a family car with 80-90% city and 10-20% highway usage. I have shortlisted between Honda Amaze ZX CVT and i20 Asta CVT, need advice on which car I should pick. I currently own an Amaze 2018 model, generally happy with the car, but the NVH level makes it a little unpleasant. Please advise.

Since the NVH level of your current Honda Amaze is something you are not happy with, we would not recommend the new Amaze, as NVH levels are more or less the same. Wind, road and engine noise do filter through into the cabin at medium and high speeds. Thus, opt for the Hyundai i20 Asta CVT instead, as you would find it a bit quieter. 

The CVT (Hyundai’s IVT) is also smooth enough when driven at typical city speeds, and in slow city traffic, the i20’s IVT creeps smoothly and keeps revs down, which reduces the “drone” you likely hear. The one thing you give up is luggage space: the i20 has 311 litres versus the Amaze’s 420 litres, but if the boot is not something you use often, this should not be a large concern.

With 500 km of monthly running and mostly weekend driving, the Hyundai Venue HX5+ is a solid SUV choice. The 1.2-litre engine is very refined and fairly responsive for city use. On the highway, it will cruise comfortably, but it can feel a bit breathless when pushed. If you usually carry only one or two passengers, this shouldn't be an issue. However, if you frequently travel with a full load, you may feel the need for more performance. This is where the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a better bet. For a similar price, you get a turbo-petrol manual, which offers better performance when required. The cabin is also wider, making it more comfortable for three passengers at the rear; however, it doesn't feel as modern inside as the Venue.Consider the Honda Amaze if you want the convenience of an automatic transmission, but otherwise, the Venue is the better choice.

Hi team, I am planning to buy a 7-seater Toyota for family use and am confused between Innova Crysta VX Diesel and Innova Hycross VX Hybrid. I already own a Maruti Baleno for daily city commuting, so this vehicle will mainly be used for long highway trips, family vacations, and occasional visits to my village, where some roads are in poor condition. I have taken the test drive of both vehicles. The Hycross felt smoother, more spacious, and very comfortable. However, I noticed that its engine becomes a bit noisy under hard acceleration, so I am not sure how it performs during long highway drives, overtaking, and while carrying a full load of passengers and luggage. My priorities are long-term ownership (10-15 years), reliability and low maintenance, comfort for 7 family members, good highway performance, ability to handle occasional rough village roads and good resale value. Considering my usage, which would you recommend between Crysta VX or Hycross VX? I would especially appreciate feedback from owners who have driven or owned both.

Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross VX Hybrid. Since you already have a Maruti Baleno for daily city use, this second car is clearly a long-distance family machine, and the Hycross is simply the better fit for that role. It is more spacious than the Crysta, has a more comfortable ride, and the hybrid powertrain is genuinely impressive on highways. Yes, the engine gets a bit vocal under hard acceleration, but in real-world highway driving, it is smooth, refined and has enough power for overtaking even with a full load. The hybrid system also keeps fuel costs in check, which matters over long ownership.The Crysta VX diesel is still a very good car, especially for rough roads and heavy-duty use, but the Hycross is the more modern and comfortable family vehicle. It will also have better resale value in the long run as diesel demand continues to decline. The only reason to pick the Crysta would be if your village roads are genuinely bad enough to require a tougher, body-on-frame vehicle. Otherwise, the Hycross VX Hybrid is the better all-rounder for your needs.

While both the Alcazar and Carens Clavis share the same 160hp 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, the Kia car is simply the better family car. Go for the Toyota Innova Crysta. Your usage is highway-heavy with occasional city runs, and you want a proper 7-seater with good luggage space and a premium feel. The Crysta is still the benchmark for this kind of requirement. It is genuinely spacious in all three rows, has a large and usable boot even with all seats up, and is built for long-distance comfort and reliability. The diesel engine is strong, refined and well-suited to highway cruising, and Toyota’s ownership experience and long-term reliability are hard to beat. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more modern product with a more premium-looking interior and a better sound system, but it does not match the Crysta for outright space, practicality or long-term peace of mind. If your priority is a proper 7-seater that will serve you well for years, the Crysta is the safer and more sensible choice. If you want a more premium cabin and a richer feature set, the XUV 7XO is the alternative, but it is not as practical as the Crysta.

For your wife, consider the Hyundai Exter. At 5'1", she will benefit from its good all-round visibility, light steering and compact dimensions, which make it very easy to manoeuvre in city traffic and tight parking spaces. This Hyundai car also gets driver's seat height adjustment from the base trim, which will be very handy for your wife. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS. However, height adjustment for the driver's seat is only available on the ZXi trim onwards.Overall, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the better fit for your requirements. It is simple, reliable, easy to drive and well-suited to both city use and occasional highway trips.
