Is it okay to upgrade my Swift Dzire’s 165/80 R14 tyres to 195/70 R14 for a slight increase in ground clearance? Please advise.

Yes, you can upsize the tyres of your Maruti Suzuki Dzire from 165/80 R14 to 195/70 R14. On account of the additional tyre height, your vehicle's ground clearance is likely to increase by approximately 9mm.
Do keep in mind that there will be a slight variance in your speed reading by 1.4%, which means that when your vehicle is being driven at 100kph, due to the upsized tyres, the speedometer will indicate 101.4kph. Also, due to the wider tyres, your car's fuel efficiency is likely to dip slightly.
At the time of installation, do check that the tyre doesn't foul with the body panels, either when the steering is turned fully on either sides, or with a full load of passengers in the rear.

Is the speed discrepancy mentioned above correct ? Shouldn't it be the other way round ie when the speedometer is showing 100 kph actual speed maybe 101.4 or so

Hi Autocar Team, I am a regular reader and trust your expertise in the automotive space. I currently own a Volkswagen Polo with tyre size 195/55 R16. Would upgrading to 195/60 R16 be a good decision for improving ride comfort? Also, could you please suggest which tyre would be better for my usage between the Apollo Apterra Cross and the Vredestein Ultrac? My priorities are ride comfort and puncture resistance, as the roads in my area are quite patchy.

Thank you for being a regular reader of Autocar India. 195 is the width of your tyre in millimetres, while 55 or 60 is the ratio of the sidewall height to its width, expressed as a percentage. To convert this to millimetres, multiply 195 by 0.55 or 0.60, which shows that the difference in sidewall height is only about 10mm and not really enough to make a significant impact on ride quality.Instead, we recommend that you stick to the manufacturer’s original size but opt for more premium tyres like the Vredestein you mentioned, or equivalents from Michelin. In addition to better cornering, premium tyres generally have lower noise levels and improved ride quality.

Will the Kia Seltos IVT be capable of handling a road trip from Mumbai to Delhi to Manali to Leh and back with five passengers and around 120 kg of luggage? Kindly advise.

The Kia Seltos IVT is a great car for city use and occasional highway drives. However, for a long road trip like the one you are planning, we would recommend a more powerful engine. Within the Seltos range, there's the option of the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with a DCT gearbox. The turbo-petrol engine is significantly more powerful than the naturally aspirated petrol (160hp vs 115hp), and the added power really counts for a lot on a long-distance trip. The IVT is smoother than the DCT in stop-start traffic, but as a package, the turbo-petrol-DCT is worth the extra spend for the enhanced performance it delivers.

I am currently evaluating two SUVs and am a bit confused about which one to choose: the Tata Harrier Petrol Adventure Plus or the new Kia Seltos HTX (A). Which one should I go for between the Tata Harrier Petrol Adventure Plus and the Kia Seltos HTX (A)? Please help me make a more confident decision.

Both these SUVs are solid picks, and choosing between them boils down to your priorities. The Tata Harrier is the physically larger SUV of the two and therefore has more interior space and a more commanding road presence. The new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine offers refined and effortless performance, and the 6-speed torque converter is smooth in operation. Ride quality and high-speed stability are also exceptionally good, making it a superb highway cruiser. The Kia Seltos is the newer of the two and has a more modern interior and exterior design. In the variants you've chosen, it is also better equipped, getting features like ventilated front seats, a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system, a better sound system and more ADAS features. Its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol offers similar refinement and performance to the Harrier, but the DCT isn’t as smooth-shifting as the Tata’s torque-converter automatic. Kia also has a better reputation for after-sales service and should have better resale value. If the Harrier’s road presence, ride comfort and smooth automatic are important to you, then pick the Harrier. However, if features and after-sales service matter more, the Kia Seltos is the better bet.
