Hello Autocar, we have shortlisted a few petrol automatic options around ₹15 lakh on-road budget that seem to fit our requirements: Skoda Kylaq Signature+, Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5L, Tata Nexon Creative+, and Hyundai Venue HX8. We are also wondering whether it would be worth waiting for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift before making a decision. Considering our priorities: ease of driving for first-time drivers, rear-seat comfort for family use, safety, reliability, and low maintenance over 10 years. Which of these petrol automatic variants would you recommend as the best overall choice for us? Also, are there any major pros or cons we should be aware of these models in terms of long-term ownership and service experience? Thank you!

For your requirement of a first-time driver-friendly petrol automatic under ₹15 lakh, with focus on rear-seat comfort, safety, reliability and low maintenance, we would suggest opting for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5L automatic.
The reason is that it offers the best overall balance as a package. It is easy to drive in the city, with smooth automatic and light controls, which suits first-time drivers. At the same time, it has a more spacious and wider cabin, making it a more comfortable car for family use. In fact, among these options, it offers the best rear-seat space and comfort, which is a key requirement for you. It also has a strong turbo petrol engine, which makes highway drives more effortless, and overall, it feels like a more complete and future-proof choice.
On the Brezza facelift, it is worth waiting only if your top priority is low maintenance and long-term peace of mind, as Maruti ownership is typically the easiest. Otherwise, your current shortlist already offers better performance and features.

I am planning to buy a car with a budget of around ₹10 lakh. My usage will be primarily on highways (around 80%), with a monthly running of approximately 3,000-5,000 km. I have shortlisted the Hyundai Venue HX5 Turbo MT and the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 (manual). My key requirements are a reliable engine, good comfort for long drives, and strong safety.

Both the Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV 3XO are good choices for your needs. Since most of your usage is on the highway, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is the better pick. Its suspension has a more robust feel than the Venue's; it feels planted and composed at speed, making it more comfortable. It also offers more cabin space for passengers, but loses out to the Venue in boot space. In terms of safety, both are well equipped, but the XUV 3XO has scored five stars in the Bharat NCAP tests. The Venue is yet to be tested. Do test drive both before you make your final decision.

I was driving a Nexon MT and now want to upgrade to an automatic. I am getting confused between Creta, 3XO, etc. I am suffering from lower back pain, so my main focus is on safety and suspension. Kindly suggest a better fit for my requirement.

In your case, we would suggest going for the Hyundai Creta IVT automatic. The Creta stands out because it offers a very comfortable and well-cushioned ride, which is important for reducing strain on your back. The suspension is tuned to absorb bumps well, especially at city speeds, making it one of the more comfortable options in this segment. The seats are also supportive and easy to get in and out of, which helps in daily usage. The IVT automatic is another big advantage. It is extremely smooth in traffic, with no jerks at low speeds, which makes driving stress-free and easier on your back, especially in stop-and-go conditions. The Mahindra XUV 3XO, while a good car, has a slightly firmer ride, so it may not feel as comfortable over longer drives or bad roads. It is good to drive, but not the best fit for your specific requirement of comfort.

I am planning to buy a new car, and am confused between the Tata Nexon Creative+ and the Mahindra 3XO AX5 variant, both petrol and manual transmission. Can you please advise me on this, as I am pretty confused?

Between the Tata Nexon Creative+ and the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 petrol manual, we would suggest leaning towards the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5.The Mahindra XUV 3XO stands out for its more responsive and enjoyable petrol engine, which makes it nicer to drive in both city and highway conditions. It also feels more modern overall in terms of driving experience. In addition, the 3XO is a wider car, which, along with its longer wheelbase, makes it a more comfortable proper 5-seater, especially for three passengers in the rear.Ride quality is also comfortable and well-balanced, so it handles bad roads and daily driving duties without any issues. The main drawback of the 3XO is its smaller boot, which is something to keep in mind depending on your usage, and this is where the Tata Nexon, with a larger boot, has an advantage.
