I am looking for a comfortable 7-seater SUV or MUV for highways, ideally a long-distance cruiser (around 1,500+ km per trip). My budget is ₹25 lakh, and I have shortlisted the XUV 7XO and the Innova Crysta automatic. Since this will be used primarily for highway runs as a secondary car, I’m okay with a lightly used vehicle as well (hence considering a used Crysta automatic). Which car would you suggest between these two? I’m inclined toward the Crysta for its hassle-free experience, but the used prices (for a 3-year-old, 50,000 km+ driven vehicle) are so high that we could buy a new XUV 7XO AX7 variant instead. I would appreciate your expert advice on this tie-breaker, especially regarding whether a used Crysta automatic makes sense.

If you are looking for a true 7/8 seater, then the Toyota Innova Crysta is a better option for you. It is more spacious than the Mahindra XUV 7XO, especially on the 3rd row, and the 2.4-litre diesel engine is refined and powerful. The Innova Crysta also comes with Toyota's reliability and low service expenses, so even if you buy a used car, you will get the same benefit.

If you do decide to buy from the used car market, make sure you do your due diligence well and buy from authorized second hand dealers, that way you can have some peace of mind.

In case you do not need the third row for seating, or need the third row for seating for a limited time, then you can consider the 7XO, which is now tech-loaded with its triple-screen setup. The new suspension setup, it gives excellent ride quality, too. However, the 7XO's 3rd row is not very practical for actual use and leaves very little space for luggage if all 3 rows are up.

indly suggest whether I should choose a new Toyota Innova Crysta GX Plus, a pre-owned Toyota Innova Crysta from TUCO Toyota, a Toyota Rumion, or Maruti Suzuki Ertiga for tourism use, family travel, and long-term ownership? I am confused. Kindly guide.

You haven't mentioned your budget, but since you're considering a brand new Toyota Innova Crysta GX Plus variant, it is safe to assume that you're comfortable spending close to Rs 25 lakhs (on-road). Since this vehicle will be used for commercial purposes, it would be better to buy a new car to start with. You will be able to claim tax refunds as well as benefit from asset depreciation in your company's books. Additionally, you get the peace of mind of a new vehicle, and the backing of a company warranty. To address the second part of your question, the Maruti Ertiga VXI MT or Toyota Rumion S MT costs half as much as an Innova Crysta GX Plus, resulting in a tremendous saving. In fact, you can even buy two cars for the price of one Innova. Both, Ertiga and Rumion are equally reliable. And even though these are petrol-powered, they're quite fuel efficient, and their maintenance costs will be lower than that of the diesel Crysta. Between the Ertiga and Rumion, even though they're the same, the Toyota is a bit more expensive, hence purely from a savings perspective, the Ertiga makes more sense.Overall, all three cars you've listed are reliable, dependable, and are backed by the widespread, strong network of Toyota and Maruti. It is up to you to decide whether you want to buy a new Crysta GX or if you're happy to buy one, or even examples of the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Rumion.Whichever you pick, these are cars you can't go wrong with.

You should go for the Toyota Innova HyCross GX (O) if you want a true 7-seater with the roomiest third row of seats. The HyCross's 2,850 mm wheelbase and flat floor make the third row friendlier for adults than the Tata Safari or the Mahindra XUV 7XO. Furthermore, it's backed up by Toyota’s proven reliability and hassle-free ownership in India. However, you will have to compromise when it comes to the powertrain. The Hycross' 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine isn't as punchy as the Tata Safari and XUV 7XO's turbocharged units, and real-world mileage is quite poor, as we managed 6.9kpl in the city and 12.4kpl on the highway. The Toyota also doesn't get a diesel engine option like the other two.If you prioritise performance and high-end features, either the Safari or the Mahindra XUV 7XO makes more sense. As for pricing, the Innova HyCross GX (O) is priced between Rs 20.43 lakh and Rs 20.56 lakh (ex-showroom).

I am planning to buy a 7-seater, and my running is not very regular. Sometimes, for a long time, I don’t drive much, but when I do, I may cross 1000 km in a single trip. I need good space in the 3rd row as well. Which one should I prefer: Mahindra XUV 7XO or Tata Safari? I need full comfort and luxury, and my budget is around ₹35 lakh.

Between the two, the Tata Safari works slightly better as a family-oriented seven-seater. Its second row can slide forward and backwards, which helps create more legroom for passengers sitting in the third row. This flexibility makes the last row easier to use for adults on longer journeys. The Mahindra XUV 7XO, on the other hand, offers stronger performance and more features, especially in the higher variants. It is a nicer car to drive with stronger performance, but the third row is better suited to children or shorter journeys compared to the Safari. If your priority is maximum comfort for all passengers and better third-row usability, the Safari Accomplished+ diesel automatic is the better choice. If you prefer stronger performance and more tech features, the XUV 7XO AX7L diesel automatic is the one to consider.
