Hi there. I am planning to buy an electric scooter for my daily commute of around 30 km. I have test-ridden the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak 3502 and Ather Rizta. I found the Chetak to be quieter and smoother, while the Rizta makes a sound similar to an e-rickshaw. I also wasn't impressed with the braking performance of the TVS iQube, so I've ruled it out. Which scooter would be the better choice in terms of after-sales service, reliability and cost per kilometre?

After-sales and servicing depend on a multitude of factors, and you should choose between the Rizta and Chetak based on which dealer and service centre feels like the safer bet to you. Cost per kilometre will also vary largely based on how much you ride every day and how fast you do so (because range will vary as per the riding mode you're in), so it's hard to accurately gauge this. Both the Rizta and Chetak are proven products and are pretty evenly matched, except in terms of price, where the Rizta is quite a bit more expensive. So, pick whichever one you like more.

Since your daily run is quite short, one of the entry-level variants of the TVS iQube or Bajaj Chetak models would make perfect sense. The iQube 2.2 is a great, no-nonsense electric scooter that will have more than enough range for your daily needs, and it doesn't feel hamstrung by lower performance or a barebones features list. You could even look at the Chetak C3001 and C3501 models, which will offer you more range with similar performance. The Chetak is also one of the most spacious electric scooters around, so if you are particularly tall, it may be the one to go for over the iQube. Take test rides of both and go for the one you lean towards more before making your decision.

I lastly had a KTM Duke 390, and for the last 3 years, I have had no bike since the 390. I have travelled to Leh Ladakh, but upright seating wasn't as great as I have ride 45bhp bike. Now I'm looking for more power. I'm running on my 62 years of age and still want a bike like CBR 250 cc, a very fine machine overall. My required bike is readily available. Which one do you suggest? I have an approach for the BMW 450, but not readily available.

If you want a sub-500cc sportbike with accommodating ergonomics, then your only option currently is the rather expensive Kawasaki Ninja 500. The Ninja 500 will give you the smoothness of a twin-cylinder Japanese engine with the thrilling performance of your erstwhile 390 Duke, and its riding position is not extreme, which means long days in the saddle won't be followed by aching joints. If you can afford the Ninja (and its maintenance, Kawasakis are also pricey to own), then we'd recommend you go for it.

Since you have a rather long commute with comfort and fuel economy as your top priorities, we'd recommend looking at these 160cc options - Honda Unicorn / SP160, TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N160. The Honda bikes are textbook commuters and are simple, no-nonsense machines which should also prove to be reliable and hassle-free to own. On the other hand, the TVS and Bajaj bikes are feature-rich, sporty commuters that will give you better performance while still being reaonably frugal and comfortable. In fact, if you want a little more pep, then the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and Bajaj Pulsar N250 both are worth considering. These bikes offer a tangible step up in performance in comparison to their smaller siblings without sacrificing too much fuel economy and since you have a long commute every day, you will value the added performance on tap. Take test rides of these bikes to see which ones float your boat before you make a decision.

I am 49 years old and have sciatica-related back pain. I want to choose between the Honda Unicorn and the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V. I plan to use the bike for the next 7 years. Please help me choose the right one.

The Honda Unicorn is a proven and reliable machine, and for someone like yourself that values comfort over performance, it makes sense. The Unicorn's flat, single-piece seat, neutral ergonomics and comfortable suspension will ensure that over bad roads, you're shielded from the jolts to a good degree. Its not as if the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V isn't a comfortable machine but it has a sportier riding position which will not be as comfortable as the Unicorn's upright and neutral one. In the same vein, you should also look at the Bajaj Pulsar N160, especially the variants with a single-piece seat. Overall, the Pulsar and Apache are more feature-rich and sportier than the Unicorn which is a straightforward, no-frills commuter and a test ride will help you decide which one is the better choice for you.

Given your requirements, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X/XC is likely to be the best fit. Its upright and commanding riding position, smooth and tractable engine, and capable handling make it a true all-rounder, and it comfortably fits within your budget.If you want the look of an adventure bike or wish for more suspension travel, then options like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure should be on your shortlist. These bikes are better at highway duties than the Scrambler (not by much, but it is a tangible difference), although they are also heavier than it.It also depends on what your usage pattern is like. If highway touring isn't playing a big role in your riding right now, and you are serious about getting into off-roading, then something lighter and friendlier like the Hero Xpulse 210 and Kawasaki KLX230/KLX230 S is the way to go.First, decide what you're going to be using your bike for and depending on that, take a test ride of the options specified above before you make your decision.
