India’s most popular drag race event is back. Dates for the 2018 edition of The Valley Run has been announced. The drag race event will be held between April 13 and 15, 2018 at the Aamby Valley City Air Strip in Lonavla, Pune.
A drag race is a timed event, in which a car or a bike that accelerates faster from standstill and covers the quarter-mile long straight in the shortest duration wins. While drag races look quite easy from a spectator’s point of view, it requires a superfast reaction time and perfect gear shifts from the racer, as the margin for error is almost non-existent. Last year’s event witnessed a record 600 entries. Elite Octane Inc. – the organiser of the event – is expecting the 2018 event to break this record. Entries for The Valley Run closes on April 9, 2018 and the cumulative prize money is Rs 6 lakh. Prices for the event start from Rs 500/day and can be paid online, as well as directly at the venue.
The first day will be reserved for two-stroke motorcycles and there are a total of 15 different categories in the two-wheeler class. The entry-level category is for bikes up to 165cc and the 'foreign open' is the blue ribbon category. There will also be a separate fastest wheelie race, which is among the most popular races at the event. For cars, the entry-level category is for cars up to 1,150cc and the 'four-wheeler unrestricted' is the flagship category. Entry forms are available on Elite Octane’s official website and the entry fee is between Rs 3,540 and Rs 8,260, depending on the category. All competitors are required to hold a valid FMSCI Competition License.
