Hi ,vi sm currently using Ertiga , my budget for s new car is around Rs 22 lakh. My usage is ,800 Km on highway and on three days s week in city traffic. On weekends I can go out for a fun drive. My priorities are safety , comfort and performance. I have confused between Skoda kushaq 1.5 , Renault Duster, renault 1.4 and curvVeEV ) creta EV ) upcoming Tata siera EV. Is kushaq a big no if I have to travel in city on low speeds , I have read that DSG is too sensitive to hear and city ride

I have a Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid, and I am extremely satisfied with its mileage (900-1000 km from 45 liters). However, I am losing the joy of driving. I migrated to this car after owning a Swift Dzire Diesel and an XL6. The mismatch between engine revs and acceleration is becoming unpleasant. Overtaking feels riskier, and even the brakes feel spongy. I have experienced a few unpleasant situations because of this. As a result, I have reduced my overall speed, making the safety of my family a bigger priority. But the driver in me is unhappy. Should I upgrade to the Duster Hybrid, the Hycross Hybrid, or the newly launched Sierra EV? Also, do diesel engines still make sense today?

From what you've described, the Grand Vitara Strong Hybrid has impressed you with its efficiency but left you wanting more from behind the wheel. If driving enjoyment is back on your priority list, the Duster Hybrid looks like the most natural upgrade. It is expected to offer a much more engaging driving experience while retaining the fuel efficiency benefits of a strong hybrid. Currently, the Duster is offered with two turbo-petrol engines: a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit from the Kiger and a 1.3-litre 4-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine. The Renault Duster mileage ranges from 17.75kpl to 19.41kpl. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol manual returns 19.41kpl, while the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol delivers 17.75kpl to 18.45kpl, depending on the transmission. The Toyota Innova HyCross Hybrid will certainly improve on comfort, refinement and performance, but it won't fundamentally change the character you're looking for. It is still geared towards relaxed family motoring rather than enthusiastic driving. The Tata Sierra EV is an interesting option and has now been launched. It promises strong performance, a premium cabin and a spacious interior. However, if the "driver in you" misses the involvement and confidence of your earlier diesel cars, we'd still wait to experience how the Duster Hybrid drives before making a decision. As for diesels, we don't think they should be ruled out altogether. With the right usage, they continue to make sense. However, given your appreciation for the fuel economy of your Grand Vitara and the direction the market is heading, we'd lean towards a strong hybrid rather than going back to diesel.

I have pre-booked for Duster Hybrid, Nissan Tekton Hybrid and lastly Tata Sierra EV. Which one should I go for? My preference is to go for the earliest available one.

Verified

The Tata Sierra EV has already been launched, while the Renault Duster Hybrid and Nissan Tekton are still some time away. The Duster Hybrid is expected to offer an excellent balance of performance, efficiency and practicality, but you'll have to wait longer for it.The choice really comes down to whether you're ready to make the switch to an EV. If you have access to reliable home charging and your driving pattern suits an EV, the Sierra EV is a very compelling option. This Tata car offers a spacious cabin, a premium interior, and a large battery pack, and should make for an excellent family SUV.Verdict: Since you've mentioned that you prefer to buy the earliest available car, we'd recommend going ahead with the Tata Sierra EV. It is already on sale, and if an EV fits your usage pattern, there's little reason to wait for the Duster Hybrid.

I want to buy a compact SUV, and I am unsure of which one to buy. I want automatic petrol, which I am sure of. I was thinking of Seltos, but then, mileage and engine after 5 years should be a concern? If I go for a duster, I am fearing service or post-dealership. Sierra, I did not like. Elevate is basic. Kushaq again, maintenance is higher. Don't want to go higher in budget, would love between 15-20 with panoramic sunroof. Checked for 3xo also, although its is sub compact, but the engine noise was higher. Please suggest to me

Pick the Kia Seltos 1.5 petrol IVT. It feels thoroughly modern, is feature-packed, spacious, and it also falls within your Rs 15-20 lakh budget, while having a panoramic sunroof. The 1.5 with the automatic is smoother than the turbo, easier to live with in traffic, and far less fussy long term. With regular service, there is no five-year engine worry; these motors routinely do big mileage without drama. As far as mileage goes, expect 10-11kpl in the city and 14-15kpl on the highway, which is fair for a car of this size.

I have been driving a Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TDI for the past 13.5 years and have clocked around 1.2 lakh km with it. It is a car I absolutely love, and despite test-driving many newer vehicles while looking for an upgrade, I am still struggling to find something that matches its combination of punchy performance, handling, steering feel, solidity, and overall driving quality. I am now looking to upgrade to an SUV with a budget of around ₹25 lakh. So far, I have test-driven the following: Renault Duster 1.3 Turbo Petrol Manual - contrary to the hype, I found it quite disappointing Tata Sierra 1.5 Petrol Automatic - comfortable, but it felt underpowered MG Hector, MG Astor, and Mahindra XUV700 - none of them really connected with me as a driver Volkswagen Taigun 1.5 TSI GT - this came closest in terms of driving feel, but the build quality and solidity still did not feel as robust as my older CBU Polo Volkswagen Tiguan - liked it, but it is unfortunately beyond my budget I am not inclined towards the Hyundai Creta or Kia Seltos because build quality and safety are very important to me. My driving usage is around 70% city and 30% occasional highway trips, although I would like to increase my long-distance driving in the future. Could you please suggest some strong options that offer solid build quality, engaging driving dynamics, good safety, and an overall premium driving experience that could genuinely feel like a worthy upgrade from my Polo?

Verified

Do note, only the Volkswagen Polo GTI was brought to India as a completely built unit (CBU); the regular Polo was locally manufactured, although the localised content varied over time.Coming to your question, you seem to have tried all the options available, and none have caught your fancy. In that case, we would recommend that you look at pre-owned options instead. A two- or three-year-old Skoda Kodiaq or Volkswagen Tiguan should fall within your Rs 25 lakh budget, and both have the same solid European build quality and are powered by a strong 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. You will enjoy driving both Skoda and Volkswagen cars, which will feel like a proper upgrade from your outgoing car. Look for a car that's still covered by factory warranty for greater peace of mind.
