For your requirements, from your shortlist, the Renault Kiger is the most sensible choice. Your usage is predominantly city driving with occasional village visits and a few trips a year, which means you need a car that is compact and easy to drive in the city, but also robust enough to handle rough roads and occasional bad patches. As you plan to travel with your family too, space is also important, as well as boot volume for luggage. The Kiger strikes that balance very well. It offers a higher ground clearance than hatchbacks like the Wagon R, which makes it more confidence-inspiring on broken village roads, and its compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre and park in the city. It also offers more space than most of the other options in this price range. You also get a choice of naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, and given that you travel with family and do occasional long drives, we recommend the turbo petrol, which has some additional punch, yet can be fuel efficient when driven carefully.The Wagon R, Exter and Punch are a size down on the Kiger and thus won't be as suitable for your family, while the Nexon and Fronx will require you to settle for a low variant in your budget. Go for the Hyundai Exter HX4 CNG. It is the best fit for your requirements as a first-time buyer who is still learning to drive. This Hyundai car is compact, easy to manoeuvre and offers excellent visibility, which will help build your confidence behind the wheel. It also has a slightly higher seating position than a sedan, making it easier to judge the car’s dimensions in traffic and while parking. The CNG car option keeps running costs low, and Hyundai’s service network and ownership experience are among the best in the segment. The only downside is that, while very smooth, it's not particularly powerful. It will feel more than adequate since your use is primarily in the city.The Tata Nexon Pure CNG is a strong alternative, as it gives you a larger car, more performance for your highway trips and better comfort overall. However, the Exter feels more refined and easier to drive in the city. However, the Pure variant is very barebones on features, not even getting a screen-based infotainment system, which doesn't make you feel like you've got your money's worth. Plus, since your mother only occasionally joins you on your trips, the added space in the rear seat won't be a huge regular benefit. Most crucially, however, the larger and more swoopy Nexon isn't as easy to drive as the Exter for a first-time buyer.

If you can stretch your budget, go for the Nexon CNG, as it has two key advantages. For one, as you mentioned, it has the bigger boot, and thanks to the dual-cylinder setup (as in the Punch and Exter too) lets you use most of the space effectively. Secondly, it uses a turbocharged engine, which addresses a big complaint with CNG cars, namely a lack of power. It also has far more space in the cabin which makes it a proper five seater, whereas the Exter and Punch will not be as comfy for rear passengers. The disadvantage, of course, is that even with a small budget stretch, you will still only get a mid-range variant of the Nexon CNG, but you should still get all the essentials. The Punch and Exter CNG will be available in their top-spec variants in your budget, and the Punch even gets an AMT option. However, this being your first car, we feel the bigger Nexon will feel like more of a statement while still keeping running costs in check. Yes, it's likely the Brezza facelift will get a dual-cylinder CNG setup, and it should launch before August, but how it will be priced remains unknown.

Go for the Hyundai Exter, because as a first car under Rs. 10 lakh, it is the easiest to live with and gives you the most useful kit in the budget. The high driving position and light controls of this Hyundai car make city driving and parking stress-free, and you can get a well-equipped trim with safety features without overshooting your budget. Hyundai’s wide service network also helps when you are new to ownership.One honest catch is that the engine feels just okay on fast highways, so it is happier at city and ring road speeds than flat-out cruising.If you deal with broken roads or rough rural patches often, the Tata Punch feels tougher and rides bad roads better, but its engine is noisier, and you will need to pick variants carefully to stay under Rs. 10 lakh. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is roomier and very easy to drive, but the good trims push the budget, and the base ones feel bare. The Tata Tiago is a smaller hatch and not as airy as the Exter.

The Citroen C3 fits your requirement of comfort and no nonsense features very well. Space inside this automatic car is good and the suspension is tuned to provide excellent ride comfort even over bad and broken city roads. The C3 is also not loaded with features but its covers all of todays essential requirements very well and will come in under your budget. The C3 also has a torque convertor automatic gearbox which is the smoothest type of autobox to have, so given that nearly all you driving is within the city, this is something you will appreciate. The only issue with Citroen is the dealer network is very sparse, so only go ahead if you have a reputed dealer in your area. An alternative would be the Skoda Kylaq, at your budget you would get the lower trims but since you are not chasing fancy features this should do well. Like the C3, the Kylaq too has a torque convertor gearbox so it will be smooth and easy in city traffic. About the Jazz CVT - there’s no official plan to bring it back to India. If they do a new small Honda car, it is not around the corner, so don’t wait.
