Questions you may find useful

I am planning to buy an automatic car under Rs. 15 lakh as I am a first-time buyer. My usage will mostly be city driving, with occasional highway trips, and I expect to drive around 750 km per month on average. My shortlist includes the Skoda Kushaq Classic, Skoda Kylaq Signature, Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5, Hyundai Venue HX6 DCT, and Maruti Brezza ZXi AT.

Pick the Skoda Kylaq. For mostly city runs, it is the easiest to live with, thanks to its compact dimensions and smooth auto gearbox and for the few highway runs you will find it also cruises calmly and feels secure at typical highway speeds. The Skoda Kushaq mileage ranges from 18.72 kpl to 19.66 kpl, depending on the chosen powertrain option. Fuel efficiency is not class-leading, but with your 750 km a month running, this will not pinch you. Skoda Kylaq price starts at Rs 7.59 lakh and goes up to Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). As an option, you can also consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza; it too has a smooth gearbox, and its city ride is nice and plush, but wait for just a month, as an update is right around the corner.

My current car is a 2012 Skoda Fabia Petrol 1.6 MPI. For an upgrade, I am considering the Kylaq AT, Kushaq AT or the Honda Elevate Hybrid, if it becomes available. My usage consists of limited city driving on weekends and around 10,000km of highway travel annually, including a 600km one-way trip to my hometown. My budget is Rs 15-18 lakh, although I can stretch a little if it makes sense.

Our suggestion would be to keep it in the Skoda cars and pick the Kushaq. Your 600km highway runs will feel the easiest in this one, thanks to the TSI engine's strong pull and a stable, confident high-speed feel. Coming from a Fabia, you will also like the familiar solid build, but it's still compact enough for your weekend city drives. For your usage, the 1.5 TSI with the DSG gearbox is honestly the better bet, as it has the stronger yet smoother engine, snappier gearbox and almost no fuel economy penalty thanks to clever cylinder deactivation tech. However, these variants are several lakhs outside your budget, so you might have to choose the 1.0 TSI, which is also very good. The Kylaq with the 1.0 TSI is also a good bet, but it won't feel as significant an update from your Fabia in terms of size. The Honda Elevate hybrid, sadly, does not look like it will see the light of day, as Honda is focused on bringing out its midsize EV first, and other all-new models thereafter. You could look at the Elevate petrol, however, which is plenty efficient enough on its own. However, we still think the Kushaq is the best option for you.

I am buying my first car. While I do not have a fixed budget, I understand that every vehicle comes with certain trade-offs. My primary usage will be city commuting, along with occasional road trips every two months. I have never driven a German car before, and the last car I drove was a Tata Indica eV2. I am looking for a car that offers excellent comfort in Delhi-NCR weather conditions, including ventilated seats and an air-conditioning system that cools the cabin effectively. I would also like a car that provides an engaging driving experience so that I do not get bored of driving it over time. I plan to pass the car on to my father in the future if I no longer need it, so I am specifically looking for an automatic. Safety is, of course, a priority as well. I am currently confused between the Skoda Kylaq, Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Kia Syros, Hyundai Venue, Hyundai Creta, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Sierra, Toyota Hyryder, and a few other options in the market. Which one would be the most suitable choice for my requirements?

Pick the Skoda Kushaq 1.0 automatic. It suits Delhi city life the best while keeping you cool and fresh, and it still makes those every-two-month highway runs easy. The Skoda Kushaq mileage ranges from 18.72 kpl to 19.66 kpl, depending on the chosen powertrain option. In your traffic, the 1.0 with the automatic is smooth and stress-free, has light steering, good visibility, and a suspension that takes broken roads well. On hot days, the AC now cools quickly, and the higher trims give you ventilated seats that actually help in NCR summers. It is also one of the safest in your list with a strong body and the full safety kit, so handing it to your father later will feel right. It is compact enough for tight parking, yet feels stable and confident at high speeds, so it's safe and you will not get bored or tired.A couple of the others come close. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid is super efficient and very easy in the city, but feels less lively on the highway.

Spoiled by the ride and handling, and the torque characteristics of the Punto MJD for the past 13 years, I am now looking to buy a new automatic car, as the Punto spends most of its time at the FNG. My usage is 70% city driving and approximately 5,000-6,000 km per year. My city drives are mostly office commutes of 15–20 km a day in light traffic (not bumper-to-bumper). Among the Kylaq AT, Kushaq 1.0 AT, and Kushaq 1.5 DSG (MY25 with discount), which one can match the solid, dynamic, and abuse-friendly nature of my Punto? I also need a reliable service network, so I am avoiding Citroën.

They don't make them like they used to, and few new cars today can replicate the feel of your Punto. That said, you're on the right track with Skoda car, and the Kushaq 1.0 TSI AT is probably the best of the lot. It's more spacious than the Kylaq while not being large enough to be cumbersome, and unlike the MY25 1.5 TSI option, you're getting the latest facelifted Kushaq here, with all the benefits, including the updated AC with a variable-geometry compressor. Plus, since your usage is 70% in the city, you'll appreciate the smoother 8-speed torque converter, compared to the 7-speed DSG of the 1.5. The Skoda Kushaq mileage ranges from 18.72 kpl to 19.66 kpl, depending on the chosen powertrain option. You will like the way the Kushaq feels tough over bad patches and speed breakers. The body control is tight, and the steering has some weight, so it gives you confidence in a way few new cars do. There's no diesel here, but coming from the Punto’s MJD, the 1.0 TSI will feel sufficiently strong. Skoda service has improved but still, ask around about the nearest workshop that you would be using, and take the longest warranty you can.

Which offers a better suspension and ride comfort, the Skoda Kushaq or Kylaq?

Verified

If you're comparing ride comfort, the Skoda Kylaq is easily the better pick, particularly variants with 16-inch wheels. Skoda has got its suspension tune spot on, its relatively softer setup makes it more suited to our road conditions. It rounds off speed breakers and rough patches better at slow speeds. Furthermore, the Kylaq feels stable at speeds and is surprisingly nimble and fun-to-drive around corners, too.In contrast, the Kushaq’s suspension feels a little firm at low speeds, so sharp bumps and small potholes do come through more in the cabin. The Skoda Kushaq mileage ranges from 18.72 kpl to 19.66 kpl, depending on the chosen powertrain option.
