I am a senior citizen, 69 years old, and 6'2" tall. My annual usage is around 6,000-7,000 km, mostly consisting of short trips with occasional long drives. I am currently using a Nissan Magnite Turbo CVT, but I am planning to replace it due to some issues. I am looking for an automatic car within a budget of ₹12-14 lakh (on-road), with a focus on driving comfort, good mileage, and safety. I have shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Mahindra XUV 3XO.

Given your usage, the Maruti Brezza ZXi AT fits your brief best within Rs 12-14 lakh on-road. Pick it because the cabin is roomy and the seat is set high, so getting in and out is easy, and there is good headroom for your height. Its 6-speed automatic is the smooth, torque converter type (not an AMT or DCT). Coming from your Nissan Magnite’s CVT, this will feel natural and calm in stop-and-go traffic and on slopes. Ride comfort is good over broken roads, and its simple 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine allows a vehicle of its size to be unstressed, fuel efficient and sufficiently powerful. Do note: The Brezza automatic is tuned for easy driving, not fast pick-up, so it feels relaxed rather than quick, and it hasn't been crash tested by any NCAP agency, though it has all the requisite safety features. The Mahindra XUV 3XO is also a decent option, though it's not quite as spacious as the Brezza, and in your budget, you'll have to settle for a mid-spec automatic model. Most of all, though, it is nowhere near as fuel-efficient. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx, while also good, won't feel like as much of an upgrade from your Magnite as the others, especially in terms of size and space. Overall, for comfort, smooth driving and sensible running costs in your budget, the Brezza ZXi AT is still your best bet.

I currently own a Hyundai i10 and am planning to buy a second car for my son. He drives around 75km every day between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, with a monthly running of around 2,200-2,400km. On weekends, I'll also use the car for occasional highway trips of around 200km. My budget is around 10 lakh. Should I consider the Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG LXi, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, or would a petrol car be a better option? Please suggest.

Pick the Maruti Fronx CNG Delta. It fits your Rs. 10 lakh budget better than Brezza CNG, and you will save a lot on fuel costs given your high running. It is light and easy to drive in city traffic, yet still has good ground clearance for broken patches, and Maruti’s service network makes maintaining it easy. For your once-a-month 200 km highway trip, the Fronx CNG cruises calmly if you keep a steady pace, and the cabin is comfortable enough for family use. The Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG is roomier and feels tougher, but the LXi CNG typically crosses Rs. 10 lakh on-road.Do note, though, the performance with CNG is not great, and the boot is small. You'll also have to plan trips around CNG refills and contend with CNG station queues. If you want to avoid all that, go for the Baleno 1.2 petrol manual instead. It stays within budget and still returns good real-world mileage.

My budget is around Rs. 15 lakh, and my usage will be approximately 80% city driving and 20% highway driving. I expect to drive less than 1,000 km per month. Given this usage pattern, would choosing a DCT be a good or bad option in the long run? Alternatively, is Tata's wet-clutch DCA a better choice? Torque converter options seem quite limited within my budget. I have considered the following options, but each comes with certain concerns: Skoda Kylaq - I am unsure about its long-term reliability and maintenance. Maruti Suzuki Brezza - Feels somewhat outdated. Maruti Suzuki Fronx - Does not seem to offer enough value for the price. Mahindra XUV 3XO - Concerned about dealer and service support. Hyundai Venue and Tata Nexon - Both seem like good options, but I am concerned about long-term gearbox wear and tear. Based on my usage and priorities, which vehicle would you recommend?

Pick the Mahindra XUV 3XO MPFi petrol automatic. Its torque-converter automatic gearbox is the most robust for your mostly city use with smooth crawling and far lower risk of costly clutch wear than a dual-clutch. While efficiency will not be as high as others like the Nexon or Brezza, your low 1,000 km a month should not make this too much of a worry and on the whole it stays well within your budget. Mahindra service can vary from dealer to dealer, so do check your local dealer options. If your Mahindra dealer is really weak, between the others, you could wait a for just about two months when the new updated Maruti Brezza is due to arrive. It too has a torque convertor autobox and its low ride is very plush and really a boon to have over bad city roads.

I just sold my Ford Aspire diesel. I am looking to choose between Fronx CNG and Brezza CNG. We are a couple with 2 kids. My run will be 40% city and 60% highway. My preference is a comfortable ride for the family and an easy-to-manoeuvre car between these two. I will wait for the underbody CNG updates in both cars. Which car should we buy? Please assist. Monthly running is 1,200-1,500km.

You can't go wrong with either of the two cars. However, since you are looking at ride quality and drive more on highways, we'd recommend you lean towards the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. The ride and handling set-up of the Brezza has an emphasis on a cushioned low-speed ride, and thus, potholes in the city are well absorbed with hardly any harshness. The softer spring, though, means there is some pitch and squat on undulating highways, and since you drive more on the highways, the Fronx would thus be better. It offers a more stable high-speed ride, and while the ride quality is definitely stiffer than the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, it’s not uncomfortable or jarring. The rear room is also lower than the Brezza, but given that it's your two kids who would sit at the back, the Fronx should not be a problem here, too.

I am planning to sell my Mahindra XUV500 as it is nearing the end of its registration validity in Delhi NCR, and I want to buy a 5-seater SUV under ₹10 lakh. My preference is for a fuel-efficient car as my daily running is around 100 km, but it should also be spacious enough for five people. Since fuel efficiency is a priority, I am open to both CNG and diesel cars. My usage will be 70% city and 30% highway, mostly within Delhi NCR. I have narrowed my choices to the Maruti Brezza CNG, Tata Nexon CNG, Kia Sonet Diesel, and Maruti Fronx CNG. Please help me evaluate which would be the better option. I am also open to any other better option if available.

The Maruti Brezza CNG and Fronx CNG will be more fuel efficient than the Nexon iCNG, and their clutch and gearbox make them friendlier to drive, too. The Brezza is due for a facelift in the coming weeks, so you might want to wait for that to arrive. The Kia Sonet diesel will feel punchier to drive (than the CNG options listed above), while being very efficient too. Also, by opting for a diesel, you won't need to wait in long queues to refill CNG. Even the Sonet is due for a generation update, which is likely to be launched this year. Another option you could consider is the Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel MX2, which is more spacious than a Sonet. Its ride-handling balance is very impressive; the Sonet, however, has an edge in terms of fuel efficiency.
