Its turbo-petrol engine feels punchy, the steering is well judged, and the overall chassis feels more eager and involving than the Seltos or Sonet. The torque-converter automatic gearbox is also very well calibrated, making it both enjoyable on open roads and effortless in city traffic. Given your usage, it is worth stretching to the automatic rather than opting for the manual.The Kia Sonet Turbo DCT would be the second choice. The turbo-petrol engine is lively and the DCT adds to the fun factor, while the feature list is impressive. However, rear-seat space and ride quality aren't quite as accommodating as the Skoda's.The Kia Seltos Manual is the more mature and spacious option, but if you're already unconvinced by its styling, there's little reason to force the issue. Buy the Kia Seltos. It is simply easier to live with for most buyers, thanks to a much wider service network and many more variant and powertrain choices, including good automatics across a wider price range. For daily city runs with the odd highway trip, the Seltos will feel like the more complete package and it has a more spacious and premium cabin. The Skoda Kylaq will suit you only if you really enjoy driving. It feels tighter and more confidence inspiring on the move, and the steering has more feel. If you plan long, frequent road trips and care more about how it drives than gadgets, that’s where the Kylaq shines. The flip side is fewer dealers and fewer variant choices.

If it fits in your budget, go for the Kia Seltos, as it meets most of your broad set of requirements. Kias are known to be reliable enough for prolonged usage. The Seltos has a spacious and well-appointed premium interior that looks and feels upmarket. It's also pretty fun to drive, especially if you opt for the 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The new-gen Hyundai Creta is coming in 2027 and might be worth waiting for, but you will get most of what it offers in the Seltos available today. However, as you've pointed out, it might be worth moving a segment lower to get more for your money, in which case we'd recommend the Hyundai Venue. It offers much of what the Seltos offers, including reliability, features and high-quality interior - albeit in a smaller form factor at a more affordable price. If reliability trumps all else, consider a Maruti Suzuki compact SUV like the Brezza or the Fronx.

The main difference compared to the Kushaq is rear seat space, where knee room is just about adequate for adults, while the Kushaq offers more room and better comfort for rear passengers. At the same time, the Kylaq gives you more features for your money, which makes it a very well-rounded package in this price range.The Kia Seltos HTE is the most spacious and comfortable option among the three and the easiest to live with. It uses a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is very smooth and refined, making it great for daily driving. However, it does not have the same outright punch as the turbo petrol engines in the Skoda models, so it will not feel as exciting or responsive when you push it.

The best 5-seaters within a compact footprint are the Tata Sierra and the all-new Kia Seltos, mainly because of their spacious back seats which are good for three passengers. The Sierra is a good mix of a city and highway car. But in your case, since you are mainly going to be commuting in Mumbai, the Seltos with the 1.5 petrol and CVT gearbox will be the best. The Seltos is superbly equipped and a bit bigger than before, which makes it a very comfortable car.

The new Seltos is comfortable and spacious, and has a good suspension setup that will give you a good ride quality over city potholes and is stable at highway speeds too.Kia's reliability is also good, and you could consider the diesel option, which might be a bit over your budget but should deliver good fuel efficiency as it uses the previous car's engine. You can expect something in the range of 10 to 12 kpl in the city and about 15 to 17 kpl on the highway.
