Hi Autocar Team! hope you’re doing well! I’m planning to buy my first car and have shortlisted the Baleno Delta AMT. However, I’m wondering if it’s worth stretching my budget for the Amaze VX CVT instead. Also, given the current push for higher ethanol blends, is it wise to spend the extra money right now? Looking for a safe, reliable, and stress-free ownership experience for the next 5 to 7 years—which of these would be the safer bet?

Hello Team, I am planning to buy my first car. I have come across many discussions regarding the future of E20, E27, and higher ethanol-blended fuels, and I often see the responses, "Don't let that concern influence your purchase decision." However, I have a hypothetical question. If the government were to mandate E30 fuel within the next five years, which car would be better equipped to handle it - the Maruti Suzuki Baleno or the Honda Amaze? My priorities are low maintenance, hassle-free ownership, and a comfortable suspension. If you think there is a better option than these two, I would appreciate your recommendation

Automobile manufacturers have all stated that their E20 cars have a material compliance tolerance for higher ethanol blends, though they have stayed away from specifying what that level is. Thus, it's hard to specify which brand is better suited to higher ethanol fuel blends. Do note, though, that with a higher ethanol blend, there will likely be a drop in efficiency; however, on the material front, you should be fine.

I am a new driver and am looking to buy my first new car for a family of five. It will be used for both city and highway driving. I have shortlisted the Honda Amaze VX, Maruti Suzuki Dzire ZXi, Maruti Suzuki Baleno Zeta, and Skoda Kylaq Signature. My priorities are comfort, safety and value for money. Also, should I choose a manual or an automatic?

Go for the Skoda Kylaq Signature automatic. It is the most complete package here, offering a higher seating position, better visibility and a more confidence-inspiring driving experience, which is especially helpful for a new driver. The Kylaq is also a genuinely safe car with a strong crash-test rating, and the 1.0 TSI engine, paired with the 6-speed torque-converter automatic, is smooth, reliable, and well-suited to both city and highway driving. The Signature trim is well-equipped, so you won't miss out on key features. Skoda Kylaq price ranges between Rs 7.59 lakh and Rs 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).Between a manual and an automatic car, go for the automatic. It removes the stress of clutch control in traffic and makes driving far easier, especially as you build confidence. The Kylaq’s automatic is a conventional torque converter, which is smooth and proven. The Honda Amaze VX and Maruti Dzire ZXi are both good value, reliable and comfortable, but they are smaller inside and do not offer the same level of driving experience as the Kylaq. The Honda Amaze price starts at Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom); however, Maruti Suzuki Dzire prices start from Rs. 6.25 lakh (ex-showroom). The Baleno Zeta is spacious and feature-rich, but as a hatchback, it does not offer the same visibility or ground clearance as the Kylaq.Overall, the Kylaq Signature automatic is the best fit for your priorities of comfort, safety and value for money.

I have a budget of Rs.10 lakh and want an automatic car. My usage will be around 70-80% in the city and 20% on highways in Bangalore. I have shortlisted Hyundai i20 Asta IVT, Honda Amaze ZX CVT, Tata Nexon AMT Pure Plus and Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT. I want a decent city fuel efficiency of around 10-12 kmpl. I also want a car that will not feel boring after 5-6 years and has a youthful appeal with a bit of style. Please help me choose the right one.

Pick the Hyundai i20 Asta IVT. For mostly Bangalore city use, it feels light and easy to drive and its clean, sporty look will still feel young in five years. It's very efficient too, though some others might be better. The automatic is the smoothest to drive and the most polished in traffic, but that trim will likely go past your car under Rs 10 lakh budget; settle for the Sportz (O) instead. A quick word on the rest. The Honda Amaze CVT is smooth, friendly and efficient, but as a compact sedan it might not deliver the style statement or road presence you want, and the Honda Amaze price starts at Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom). The Baleno will be the most efficient; in real-world traffic you can expect around 11-13kpl if you are judicious with the throttle, and the cabin is airy and comfy for the daily grind. However, the AMT is not as smooth as the i20’s automatic. Tata Nexon AMT gives you SUV stance and presence, but the AMT is clunky in stop-go and city economy is weaker, so your 10-12kpl requirement is a stretch.

I wish to purchase an ICE vehicle in the Rs. 8-10 lakh price range during this Diwali. I have shortlisted the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and Honda Amaze. My monthly driving is around 900-1,100 km, with approximately 60% highway usage and 40% city driving. My priorities are engine refinement, safety, and low maintenance costs. I am not interested in Tata vehicles, and I would also prefer to avoid brands such as Renault, Citroën, and Nissan, as they do not have service centres in my district. Based on these requirements, which car would you recommend?

Go for the Honda Amaze. The Amaze has a full 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP, and the sedan feels stable on the highways. This Honda car comes with a 1.2 i‑VTEC petrol engine that is peppy and smooth, and Honda’s service costs stay sensible over time. The big boot makes road trips easier, and its ride keeps passengers comfortable on mixed roads. Mid trims should sit close to your Rs. 8-10 lakh window. One catch with the Amaze is the power. With a full load, you will need a downshift for quick overtakes, and this petrol car gets a bit vocal when revved hard. If that is fine, it best fits what you want: a smooth engine, stable and confident on the highway, and low, predictable maintenance from a brand with a wide network. The Honda Amaze price starts at Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom).
