Renault Kwid 1.0 AMT launch soon

Renault will add a third derivative to its popular Kwid line-up this month. The Kwid will soon be available with an AMT gearbox.  Dealers have begun accepting bookings for the Kwid AMT and are promising deliveries by the end of this month. Booking amount has been set at Rs 10,000.

Renault unveiled the Kwid 1.0 and the 1.0 AMT at the Auto Expo 2016 earlier. While the Kwid 1.0 with a manual transmission was launched a few months ago, the carmaker is now planning to bring in the AMT-equipped model this month. The Kwid 1.0 AMT will come with a five-speed automated manual gearbox and will rival the likes of the Maruti Alto K10 AMT.

The Kwid AMT will come with the more-powerful 68hp 1.0-litre SCe engine. Renault is likely to launch the Kwid 1.0 Easy-R AMT in only the top-spec RXT and RXT (O) variants. This means, it will mirror the feature list of the Kwid 1.0 that includes a driver airbag (RXT-O), touchscreen infotainment system with two speakers, remote keyless entry, front power windows and a rear parcel tray to name a few.

The Renault Kwid is built on the company’s highly flexible CMF-A platform which will be shared with other Renault, Nissan and Datsun products. The 800cc Kwid will continue to be sold with a manual gearbox only.

There is no news on the Kwid 1.0 Easy-R AMT’s pricing. However, dealers are hinting that it will be priced at a premium of around Rs 45,000 over the manual variant. This means it will be safe to assume an ex-showroom, Delhi price of Rs 4.2 lakh for the Kwid 1.0 Easy-R AMT. In comparison, the Alto K10 VXI AMT is priced at Rs 4.05 lakh.
