Bmw has officially announced that the new 7-series will be unveiled on June 10 via a teaser video. However, the German automaker's official Austrian website accidentally showcased the undisguised car on its online configurator prematurely.

The new 7-series' design sees the front end getting a prominent kidney-shaped grille flanked by laser headlights with double-barrel detailing. Other styling cues include LED daytime-running lights, and a wide-looking chin with prominent chrome detailing. Other highlights include a remote parking system, an iDrive Touch Display infotainment system with gesture control technology and Dynamic Damper Control to improve ride and handling.

BMW has stated that the model will have the latest generation of in-line six-cylinder TwinPower turbo engines and air suspension with automatic self-levelling as standard. Other engines likely to power the car will be twin and tri-turbo versions of BMW’s high-revving diesel engines and turbo-petrol V8s. Power will be sent to the rear or all four wheels through a revised eight-speed Steptronic gearbox, with the possibility of an all-new nine-speed automatic.

More details are yet to be revealed, but the car is expected to be around 130kg lighter than its predecessor. The loss in weight is down to the extensive use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, high-strength steel and aluminium in the car’s construction.

The BMW 7-series will go on sale internationally in the second half of the year. The India launch could happen sometime early 2016.
