Mahindra’s latest electric vehicle, the e2o, will soon get a power steering-equipped variant. Customer feedback has pointed out that the steering of the e2o feels heavy at low speeds and hence Mahindra will introduce a new electric power steering for the e2o. What remains to be seen is how much load is added to the e2o due to the power-steering setup and what effect that has on its range. Also in the works is a four-door variant that is aimed at increasing practicality of the car.

While space and comfort on the inside of the Mahindra e2o is quite good, access to the rear seats is difficult and the addition of rear doors should address this issue.

The Mahindra e2o, launched in March 2013, is powered by an electric motor that is driven by 48-volt lithium-ion batteries, capable of powering the car for about 100km on a single charge. It makes 19kW at 3750rpm and 5.4kgm of torque at 3400rpm. The e2o has a top speed of 81kph and weighs 830kg. It takes five hours to charge its batteries completely.

A replacement of the Reva electric car, the e2o was first shown at the 2012 Auto Expo as the Reva NX-R. The Mahindra e2o is manufactured at the company’s Bangalore plant.
