Prior to the launch of the Maruti Baleno, the Hyundai i20 has long been a popular buy for owners looking for a large, comfortable, spacious and well equipped hatchback. The hatchback offers one of the best put-together cabins in the segment, along with good levels of equipment and safety features, especially in the top trims. Hyundai has even targeted the crossover craze with a crossover derivative of the i20, the i20 Active.

Hyundai i20 engine

The i20 is available with a choice of two petrols and one diesel engine. The first of the two petrol motors is an 83hp, 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit that comes paired with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard. The second petrol engine is an all-new unit for India and is a 100hp, 1.4-litre dual VTVT motor paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The diesel unit is a 90hp, 1.4-litre four-cylinder unit that comes paired with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard.

Hyundai i20 features

Available in five trim levels – Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta(O) – the i20 offers dual airbags as standard fitment with ABS being added in the mid Sportz trim. Top trim cars feature six airbags and get equipment such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, keyless entry and go, auto climate control and diamond-cut alloy wheels. Buyers looking at the petrol automatic though may find the equipment list to be a bit sparse when considering the hefty price tag for the model.
