Fiat has officially announced that bookings for its long-awaited Punto Evo Abarth  hot hatch are open at an initial amount of Rs 50,000. Given the car's launch date around Diwali, the carmaker is all set to capitalise on buyer sentiment during the festive season.

As reviewed earlier, the Punto Abarth comes powered by a 1.4-litre T-Jet engine, which puts out 145bhp and 21.57kgm of torque, and comes mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The same engine does duty on the 595 Competizione, albeit in a higher state of tune. There is news of Fiat contemplating the Abarth treatment for its Linea sedan as well, in which case, the same 1.4-litre T-Jet is likely to find its way under the Linea’s hood.

The Punto Abarth remains similar to the standard Punto Evo, save for a 30mm drop in ride height, the exterior graphics, the special alloy wheels and, of course, the Abarth badging.

The manufacturer will retail the Punto Abarth via Fiat dealerships across the country and will price it at around Rs 10 lakh. With the Punto Abarth, Fiat’s Abarth India line-up now has two models; the other car being the Abarth 595 Competizione.
