Sales In February 2011, the second-last month in the current fiscal year, continued to increase with Maruti Suzuki crossing the 100,000 mark for the second consecutive month. The company’s domestic sales were 101,543 units including 33,015 units for the Alto and a one-third increase in SX4 sales over January 2011 numbers at 3,534 units.

February also saw a strong showing by Hyundai i10 at 15,105 units, which helped the company maintain its overall tally ahead of Tata Motors. Tata saw a surge in sales as a result of the Nano which added 8,262 units to its numbers, driving it into the Top 10 cars after a five-month gap. Sales of the Indica and Indigo range also gave the Tata numbers a good boost in the month.

In the midsize segment, the Vento and City had sales of 3,548 and 3,668 units respectively, indicating intensifying competition in the segment. With the SX4 now getting a diesel version, the coming months may well see an interesting battle play out between these three players for supremacy in the midsize arena.

Meanwhile, Toyota Etios sales have crossed the 2,000 mark already, which is no surprise given the avalanche of bookings the car received. In the luxury segment, Mercedes-Benz sold 662 units including 362 units of its C-class while BMW sold 264 units of its 5-series. In the CBU segment, the Kizashi saloon from Maruti sold 25 units.
