Tata has reportedly increased the prices of its Tiago hatchback across all variants by up to Rs 6,000.

Launched in April this year, the Tiago was priced very aggressively, however Tata had stated at the launch itself that the low pricing would not be sustainable for long and the carmaker would hike the prices soon.

The car’s price along with its impressive feature list has garnered interest in the market, with over 30,000 bookings received so far and currently, there is a three- to four-month waiting period.

“Yes there is a marginal increase in Tiago prices. As you must be aware that we launched the Tiago with an introductory pricing, which is usually offered for around three months, but we have extended to five months for our customers” a Tata spokesperson told the media.

The automaker has also added a second shift at its Sanand plant in a bid to ramp-up production and reduce the waiting period for the model.

Tata is also planning to develop a hot-hatch variant of the Tiago that will use a turbocharged version of the current 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine. The engine is primarily being developed for the upcoming Nexon compact SUV, with the power bumped up to around 120hp. It is expected to come with a lowered suspension, stiffer damping and an aggressive-looking body kit to distinguish it from the regular Tiago.
